I have just bought a Samsung TV for use in conservatory. I listen via headphones to prevent disturbing others. The new TV has no headphone socket and following advice and an adapter I have managed to connect headphones via the optical port. Unfortunately sound only just audible and Samsung say sound must be adjusted via external speaker(my headphones. Seemingly and paradoxically headphones with volume control seem primarily for turning sound down rather than amplification. Anybody got any ideas it is driving me mad.

Samsung televisions for sound are cack .got 2 50inch sonys there even worse for sound , if I hadn't purchased sound bars i'd be having the sound at 70, also got a cheap 46 inch lg , far superior to sony or Samsung sound wise but picture quality is pea poor compared to sony samsung

Buy a new TV Rodders but make sure it has a headphone socket this time. Not very helpful but there doesn't seem to be an easier solution. You could post it in the general section of the BSF, there seems to be plenty of IT literate posters on there for such problems.
