Danish champion Niels-Kristian Iversen makes a quick return to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series as he covers for the injured Martin Vaculik in Warsaw and Prague next month.
The Slovak racer has been forced to withdraw from the Boll Warsaw SGP on May 12 and the Anlas Czech SGP in May 26 after breaking his ankle on his SGB Premiership debut for Leicester at Swindon last Thursday.
Vaculik has undergone two operations to repair the damage, the first to fix the broken bones and the second to carry out a skin graft. He is expected to be discharged from hospital in the UK next week, but it is currently unclear when he will be fit to resume racing.
His cruel start to the season hands Iversen an opportunity to stamp his mark on this year’s World Championship after the Esbjerg-born ace missed out on qualification and a wild card pick for this year’s series.
NKI, who dons his No.88 race jacket, was handed the consolation of the first reserve berth and enters the action for round one in the Polish capital.

Difficult to pick a winner, several contenders. First GP often won by an outsider. Zagar at 33/1 fits the bill and gets my £1. You never know which Zagar will turn up, amongst it or forgotten. He was in good form last few GP’s. Anyway, that’s probably my £1 gone.

Until they do 1,2,3,4 1/4 odds e/w betting (if you pick a finalist who finishes then you should get a return) I'll not bet on the SGP. But for those who do, here's some odds: click to enlarge. Probably worth doing Sayfutdinov until he wins one. He steamed through qualifying so easily at times last year only to usually blow it in the semi. Hopefully he's sorted that for 2018.
