No it's not a medical emergency. I was just wondering where the domestic waterleak post went?

Deleted it as zilch interest shown If I took that approach we wouldn't have a website as I often wonder why I bother. I thought it was interesting but it came at the same time as meetings being on (an unsual occurence these days) so there were other things to find information or respond to. I don't have the waterworks insurance that they regularly send reminders for, because for the unexpected small jobs (and after paying an excess) I think I'd rather sort myself out. I don't think that you ever expect the major unfound leak as you described which is really when you need the insurance. Until you mentioned it I'd never heard of anyone with such an unfound leak so I'll look at the insurance differently when it next arrives in the post.

Appreciate you do keep it going Rigsby. The closed shop limits the annoying looney’s but guess there are many that are unaware this forum exists. It’s not a google headline search. We should all contribute more rather than take your time for granted. Must do better. Maybe even create a Massif Regarding Rodders ‘waterworks’’. As previously stated I have received and ignored these insurance promotions as a money making scam in line with numerous other ‘reassurance offers’. This is the first time I have heard a case for a claim. Unfortunately the genuine are lost in the abundance of junk. Hope it’s not too painful Rodders.

On the subject of Anglian Water,a couple of years ago our road all had a letter addressed to the householder, claiming someone in the road had damaged a pipe by building an extension,as we all used water from said pipe we all had to contribute towards the repair. We decided as they didn't send it to a named person, we would say we thought it was junk mail, and bin it,we didn't hear another word.
Our near neighbours had a similar problem to Rodders, and were told the same, they have had a bloke in with a digger making huge trenches in their lovely drive (sorry rodders)😡
Is anybody else not on a water meter? We are still on water rates, last bill we got, they were trying to get us to change by offering £100, tempting, but if they want us have it so much would it benefit us or them? Mind you, if we had a leak of large proportions, we might not know until our house gradually sank into the ground.

This problem came to light when I received a letter from Cambridge Water that having just read my water meter it showed excessive use during last 6 months making the expected bill £675 in stead of usual CIRCA £150.They claimed either excessive use or a leak which was down to me. We have no internal leaks and no apparent external ones either. I told them this and suggested the meter had either been misread or was wrong.
A man came Thursday a claimed a small but significant leek somewhere between external stopcock and rising main in my house. Categorically maintained down to me and I should get in a ground work contractor. Also suggested that I should contact the people who send the letters about such things join the scheme and then claim after 28 days saying that it had just happened.
In the event I did not do this but hopefully have found a solution through cover I have via British Gas. Someone coming Wednesday who claim they have equipment to pin point leak so that only need to dig in that particular spot. I will need to replace/repair block paving at the particular spot. Fingers and everything else crossed.

That sounds a lot better, but you would think if it is their pipe they should at least pay some of the bill, but I am always accused of being too simplistic over things.

No what the did was in effect suggest I made a fraudulent claim.

An Update
By a sheer fluke I had some cover for this via an extension of my gas boiler maintenance contract. Dynorod called an seemingly fixed leak. Unfortunately this seemed to cause a further leak. After four more visits they could not trace it and said they needed a special piece of equipment which they did not have. In the meantime I complained to Water company who agreed to take the job over and waive the outstanding bill.
Came and fixes leak which involved digging three holes in block paving drive.Filled in holes ready for block paving to be replaced on Monday.
Now it seems they have disturbed telephone cable in one of the holes. They insist they must replace block paving due to health and safety, and Bt will have to dig it all up again. To be continued

Pretty standard stuff these days for many fixes: seemingly solve one problem only to create another. Good that your appear not to have got too stung in the pocket thus far.
