The number of animals dumped at rescue centres has surged by up to 50% as the holiday season season arrives.
Many are handed over simply because owners do not want to arrange and pay for care while away.
The Dogs Trust took in 152 in day this month. Dogs Trust said: "we often see an increase in the run-up to holidays".
A quote from another dog rescue centre was: "we need him gone because we're on holiday on Monday".

Although you have to treat all newspaper articles with suspicion, I don't think that we ever needed proof that there are some heartless morons out there who should never be allowed near an animal, let alone own one, but this just goes some way to confirm those suspicions. I mean, what sort of brain dead person does it take not to realise that having a pet/animal is expensive, time-consuming and comes with many other responsibilities? Having said that, you only have to look around you these days at modern society to answer that question.
And for the good guys out there, if you're thinking of getting an pet/animal yourself then do consider a rescued animal first before buying new. A new pet/animal is nice but there are many more out there that need your help, often due to thick or abusive owners or those poor souls who have genuinely fallen on hard times and can no longer look after their pets/animals.
