Poland join their rivals in naming an unchanged side for the FIM PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna Speedway World Cup Final as they bid to win a third straight gold medal in Gorzow on Saturday.
The tournament favourites brought young guns Maciej Janowski and Przemyslaw Pawlicki to the practice session at the Edward Jancarz Stadium this afternoon.
But they have opted to keep faith with world champion Tomasz Gollob, world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel, in-form Piotr Protasiewicz, SGP star Janusz Kolodziej and Krzysztof Kasprzak, who scored a 15-point maximum in Event Two at King’s Lynn on Monday.
Poland - the only side which launched their campaign at King’s Lynn and made it to the SWC Final - don blue helmet colours for the meeting.
Denmark earned their spot in the showcase after winning Event One at Vojens ahead of Sweden and Australia at Vojens last Saturday.
So it was no surprise that team manager Anders Secher has stuck with three-time world champion Nicki Pedersen, Danish champion Kenneth Bjerre, former SGP stars Bjarne Pedersen and Niels-Kristian Iversen and Mads Korneliussen, who registered 12 points on his SWC debut last Saturday.
Nicolai Klindt also practiced but didn’t make the Danish team, who wear red helmets.
Australian boss Craig Boyce has remained loyal to the five riders who stormed to victory in Thursday night’s Race-Off at Gorzow.
Three-time world champion Jason Crump, Aussie champion Chris Holder, World Under-21 champion Darcy Ward and Race-Off top scorer Troy Batchelor all line-up for the men from Down Under, who ride in white. Davey Watt got the nod over Rory Schlein, who also had a spin at the Edward Jancarz Stadium.
Sweden, who ride in yellow, complete the SWC Final field after finishing second in the Race-Off. Freddie Lindgren and Jonas Davidsson both practiced ahead of the meeting after struggling to hit their best form on Thursday, when they recorded four and six points respectively.
Andreas Jonsson, Antonio Lindback and Thomas H Jonasson all opted out of the session, and manager Bo Wirebrand will hope they gained enough Gorzow track time in the Race-Off to inspire their country to what would be a surprise victory.
The referee for the meeting is Great Britain’s Jim Lawrence, who also took charge of the Race-Off.

The race formula used for the SWC is bloody awful, I did wonder if the BSPA office came up with it

So Pearson thinks WYSIWYG - if only! Does UK domestic #speedway compare with that? I think not, you think you'd walked into the wrong place!

A meaningless sideshow that interferes with the BEL. Until our governing body decided to take a stance against the SGP cartel we are always going to be a poor relation. Its time to get rid of the glory boys and go back to basics.

Its time to get rid of the glory boys and go back to basics. Couldn't disagree more. The SWC and SGP showcase the sport at it's finest and put it on par with any other major motorsport event. I know a few none speedway fans who will happily sit down and watch these events but couldn't be interested in league speedway. The problem lies with the promoters in this country who have continually failed to build off the back of the success of the world championship events. The final race between gollob and crump was fantastic. Wouldn't it be great to be able to say after that race "gollob and crump are racing each other at a track in the UK soon". Raise the quality of the elite league, have fewer meetings and make each meeting an event that's marketed and sold to the public.

Its time to get rid of the glory boys and go back to basics. They missed that boat 10 years or more ago. We're stuck with it and it's time to make it work to our advantage somehow The bottom line is that we need to find and invest in some talent. The problem I see it is that Brits think that the ability to do four laps and a big van with their name on makes them the equal of Crump or Gollob. Then they turn into David Howe, Simon Stead or Lewis Bridger. It's image over substance!

Raise the quality of the elite league, have fewer meetings and make each meeting an event that's marketed and sold to the public. Its fair to say that these events make a lot of money for the people who market them, the riders, teams and staging venues get peanuts in return, league speedway is the other way around. Things need to change but it has to be said the final was a fantastic match to watch, just need to get rid of the joker and tactical subs crap and then the best team wins every time

just need to get rid of the joker and tactical subs crap and then the best team wins every time Unfortunately they keep things interesting and stop teams getting away. Apart from a bit of tinkering I think that we're stuck with them.

Basically agree but the stadiums, parking, catering, costs and the way that the paying public are treated all need to be looked at. I'm not sure that that can ever be rectified. What you see last night in terms of action, stadium, atmosphere etc you'll never get in the UK outside of Cardiff (which they'll be promoting from last night until next August).

Also, you get to see the all the action live rather than the brief glimpse as they fly past you and then watch on the big screen to see the rest of the action

Apart from a bit of tinkering I think that we're stuck with them. I dont doubt thats true but it provides a distinct advantage to teams with perhaps one or two big hitters.
