Lakeside have drafted in Wolverhampton legend Peter Karlsson to join their power-packed 2012 team.

The Swedish veteran joins club captain Lee Richardson and former Poole skipper Davey Watt in forming an awesome top three.

Stuart Robson and Kauko Nieminen share a doubling-up spot, while Hammers young gun Robert Mear completes the first five.

Swedish starlet Kim Nilsson should prove to be the Essex’s outfit’s trump card at reserve, while Australian racer Justin Sedgmen and British rider Ritchie Worrall share the No.7 berth.

Hammers owner Stuart Douglas believes he and co-promoter Jon Cook have assembled one of their strongest line-ups since they took over from Ronnie Russell at the Arena-Essex Raceway in 2006.

He told the club’s official website: “It’s always really exciting announcing a new team, and we are really pleased that the last few pieces of the jigsaw fell into place much quicker than expected.

“I think this is one of the most thrilling teams we have ever tracked – we can look forward to 2012 with great anticipation.”

It appears Karlsson will lead the Hammers team and start the season at No.1 on his 8.12 average. Richardson (8.06) and Watt (7.71) will challenge the 41-year-old for this role.

Cook will hope Lakeside’s strength in depth throughout the side can help them land their first ever Elite League championship.

He said: “I’m not totally sure of the order in which the team will line-up at the moment. That will be down to team manager Neil Vatcher to decide closer to the date once we’ve practiced and seen which pairings run better.

“But Peter will run at No.1 being the highest averaging rider with Lee at number three, four or five.

“With Davey also in the mix, we feel the top-heavy team we are looking at with plenty of back-up and at least one in-form reserve will stand us in good stead for a great season.”

Must admit I did enjoy watching Swindon stuff Lakeside at Arena last night but again seeing some of the comments on the BSF this morning about how good the racing was makes me think they were watching a different meeting to me because you could count the genuine overtakes in the first 9 heats on one hand.

Would have loved to have seen Jon Cooks face because he hates losing at home with a vengeance.

There was more over taking in this meeting on the usual slick track than we have seen all season.

Club owner, Stuart Douglas, although delighted to have a rider of Lawson’s ability join the team, was disturbed the departure of Worrall. “’I'm very disappointed in the turn of events, but I’m not interested in having a rider at this Club who has no desire to be here, despite happily signing a contract for 2013″, said Douglas.

“Richie is a very talented young man, but sadly he is receiving less than helpful advice from a third party with a vested interest in prising him away from this Club.

We have seen the damaging affect that the agent system has had on English football – I’m really sad to see that this has now entered speedway. The ones who really suffer are our fans, who were hugely excited to see such a prospect ride for the Hammers, and they can justifiably feel let down. I’m not sure I can ever fully explain to them how reprehensible I have found this unpleasant behaviour.

It leaves a very unsavoury taste, but we are a very positive Club with good energy and we will not be blown off course by this – it merely strengthens our resolve to do well in 2013.”

Within a couple of months of the new only 2 riders over 7 points rule , they have made it 3 signed over 7, what is the point of the rule if this is ratified by the BSPA ,if they say that it was only initial team building, this could have been done by any club within the first month, prepared to make multi changes,DICK ?

Interesting point Jim, but although most of the internet suggest its Swiderski making way nothings been said by the club yet.

Not sure if Ulameks starting GSA is high enough to have him included in the top 20, also he might have been reassessed after all Cook is the Vice Chair.

Ulamek's not in the Top 20... Schlein on 7.33 was 20th and Ulamek is on 7.10.

Apparently Mear and Nilsson will be making way, We could do a lot worse than signing Nilsson... Certainly better than Klindt in my opinion.
