Emil Sayfutdinov's World Championship dreams hang in the balance after he broke his arm in a meeting in Poland on Saturday.
The Russian star, riding for Czechtochowa, suffered a broken left arm in Heat Seven of their Ekstraliga play-off semi-final, first leg defeat against Torun.
Sayfutdinov, who was controversially excluded as well as part of the collision, had his arm run over by Torun's Kamil Brzozowski after going down during a fierce battle with Adrian Miedzinski.
Team Sayfutdinov confirmed the news on their website and it is unclear if the break is serious enough to rule him out of the Doodson Slovenian SGP in Krsko next Saturday.
The Russian is three points adrift of Britain's Tai Woffinden, who leads the Grand Prix standings, and missing the Slovenian round would make the Briton a strong favourite to win the title.

He might be injured he might not be injured, you'll know when you see him said co-manager manager Swales, we're still trying to contact him!
Emil Sayfutdinov’s manager Tomasz Suskiewicz has confirmed the SGP title contender has just “a five percent chance” of racing again in 2013 after injuring his knee and arm on Saturday. Sayfutdinov crashed in heat seven of Czestochowa’s 49-41 Polish Ekstraliga play-off semi-final, first leg loss at Torun's Marian Rose Motoarena after being pushed hard into turn two by Torun’s Adrian Miedzinski, tumbling and then being ran over by the Pole’s team mate Kamil Brzozowski. Sayfutdinov has 114 SGP points and is only three behind World Championship leader Tai Woffinden, who is on 117 points.
He is yet to officially withdraw from the Doodson Slovenian SGP in Krsko on Saturday, but his manager Tomasz Suskiewicz was unable to confirm when the Russian will return to racing.

Speedway governing body, the FIM, has confirmed that Russian rider Emil Sayfutdinov has officially withdrawn from the Doodson Slovenian FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Krsko on Saturday. The 23-year-old, who is currently sitting second in the World Championship standings, just three points off Great Britain’s Tai Woffinden in first, has failed to recover from injuries sustained last Saturday while riding for his Polish club Czestochowa against Torun in the Polish Ekstraliga play-off semi-finals. Sayfutdinov’s place in Saturday’s line-up will be taken by Denmark’s SGP second reserve Leon Madsen - who dons the No.20 race jacket. sgp

Another one with sense and being well advised:
Emil Sayfutdinov’s manager Tomasz Suskiewicz admits the Russian was given the option of an early SGP comeback, but decided against racing at “80 or 90 percent” fitness.
The 23-year-old’s season is over after he suffered elbow and knee ligament damage in Czestochowa’s Polish Ekstraliga play-off semi-final, first leg at Torun on August 31.
Sayfutdinov sits out the Rockklassiker Scandinavian SGP in Stockholm this Saturday, and can only look on as Britain’s Tai Woffinden stands on the verge of winning the World Championship, which the former Coventry rider was hotly-tipped for less than two months ago.
But the Salavat-born star had no intention of putting his health in jeopardy to stay in the hunt. Ligament injuries take longer to heal than broken bones and Suskiewicz says Sayfutdinov is determined to take all the time he needs to bounce back in 2014.
He said: “They said they can make him 80 or 90 percent ready this season and it’s his decision whether he wants to ride or not.
“They explained that to be 100 percent ready, he needs time. Obviously if he starts riding and something happened – another crash or something like that – the damage will get worse.
“Emil says his health is more important for him than anything else and to compete in the Grand Prix, he needs to be 100 percent ready or at least 95 percent, not injured like he is.
“He competed with what he had in Copenhagen (a broken fifth metatarsal), but that was a different story. Now it’s a matter of being ready for next year or he’ll have a problem next year. He wants enough time to get ready and there was only one call we could make – to get everything 100 percent.”
After SGP wins in Bydgoszcz, Gothenburg and Cardiff this season, Suskiewicz says the Russian torpedo still has plenty of reason to be proud, even if he doesn’t earn a well-deserved World Championship medal for his efforts.
He added: “He has made very good progress. He made the final in five out of nine rounds. He was second with some chance to be world champion.
“I think we should look at the positive things from this season, not the bad things, and just look at the future. We can’t change anything – we can only be prepared for next year to do our job well.”
