British racer Tai Woffinden has seen plans for surgery on his collarbone scrapped.
Woffinden, who needs six points from the Torun SGP of Poland on October 5 to become world champion, has visited hospital where it was decided to let the injury heal as it is.
The Scunthorpe-born rider crashed on Saturday in the Rockklassiker Scandinavian SGP at Stockholm’s Friends Arena and suffered a repeat of the injury sustained in the Fogo British SGP at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on June 1.
He battled on courageously, gaining seven points to close in on his dream of standing on top of the world and he is planning to rest ahead of the deciding round. "I’ve been to hospital and seen the X-ray. Basically, I have fractured the collarbone and bent the plate that was already in there from the injury in June." - Tai Woffinden
Wolves star Woffinden said: “I’ve been to hospital and seen the X-ray. Basically, I have fractured the collarbone and bent the plate that was already in there from the injury in June.
“It’s uncomfortable, of course, but the advice which I am happy to take on board is that the metalwork is still keeping the collarbone in place and there is no point in having surgery to take it all out and put a new plate in.
“I am better off resting for the next couple of weeks and allowing the injury to settle down. There is no reason why I can’t let it heal with a bent plate because the collarbone is still together.
“So I will rest, then go to Torun and do my very best. It’s the same as June.
"I know how to manage it and I will have to go through it all again in Poland as I did in June.
“I will then go and see my doctor again, book another appointment to take a look and decide what course of action to take immediately after Torun.”

Troy "horrible little oik" Batchelor (or is he just misunderstood?) admits his World Championship debut “couldn’t be on a better track” as he prepares to ride in the Torun SGP of Poland. The Panthers asset has been called up for the closing round of 2013 after 2010 world champion Tomasz Gollob’s season ended with a fractured vertebrae sustained in Stockholm. Batchelor qualified as third reserve for this year’s series after finishing sixth in the GP Challenge at Gorican on September 29, 2012. With first and second reserves Ales Dryml and Leon Madsen already covering for world champion Chris Holder and Emil Sayfutdinov, Batchelor was handed an unexpected call-up.

British Speedway @speedwaygb (4/10/13) GREAT Britain star Tai Woffinden needs a maximum of six points to clinch the World Championship title. For sure 2013 will not be remembered as a vintage year for the sport. Hardly Woffinden's fault. He can only beat what's in front of him and he has. The 250/1 outsider has come through to potentially win the race, that's some achievement. Only Sayfutdinov might have stopped him although it didn't look like it at the time of his injury.

Today's betting choices and oddsProbably the best bet is Woffinden to come last in the race after he gets enough points to claim the 2013 title, which all but champs hopes he does Outside of 3 Poles in heat 4 is not what you want. If he doesn't make a flyer then expect the cut back and play safe, a couple of points will do in his second.

Ward for this one. Outside bets Vaculik and AJ (surely has to put in a great performance to increase wild card chances).

It's also worth noting that the best Hampel has scored this series is 16, so it's going to require both a significant better performance from him and a really poor performance from Woffinden to make the inroads. To be fair the way Tai has ridden this year it's unlikely to happen unless he pulls out for some reason.

Now that's a race track and Speedway meeting. Definitely must do this GP next year.
Well done Woffy, got the job done nice and early - which eased the nerves and let me enjoy the meeting. Small word of warning, don't get too cocky, leave that to the Oik.
Biggest surprise of the night Loramski's barnet. Looks like he was trying to match Tai's mum and girlfriend's hair style.
