IVERSEN WINS BRANDONAPOLISWORLD No.3 Niels-Kristian Iversen recovered from a first-ride crash to add his name to the prestigious Brandonapolis roll of honour at Coventry on Friday.Iversen scored just one point from his first two rides, but eight from his final three took him into the semi-final, and he won both that and a re-started Final after fellow Dane Hans Andersen had come to grief. Track conditions certainly favoured those willing to try the grippy outside line, and there were a series of spectacular moves throughout an entertaining meeting which was completed just as heavy rain began to move in. Kenneth Hansen, looking to impress to earn a UK contract for 2014, did his chances no harm with three race wins, all of them from the back with his best move being a remarkable blast from third to first in Heat 15 to pick off both Aaron Summers and Krzysztof Kasprzak. The other non-UK regular, Jakub Jamrog, had mixed fortunes but showed his potential by winning Heat 5 in easily the fastest time of the night – and he also picked himself up from a heavy spill when he clipped Ricky Wells’ rear wheel in Heat 11. Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Ben Barker led the leaderboard with one race apiece to go, former Bees star Chris Harris having dropped points in his fourth outing when he fell whilst trying to pass Scott Nicholls. Iversen, who had spun on turn three in Heat 4 and come to grief with Barker laying his machine down in avoidance, moved on to nine points when Hansen squeezed by him to win Heat 17, and that left him awaiting the result of Heat 20 to see if he would progress. Wins for Pedersen and Andersen in the final two qualifying races took them directly into the Final, and with Barker second in Heat 20 Kasprzak and Kenneth Bjerre were left out of the major points, and outside the top six. Coventry’s three 2013 representatives were also out of luck, Nicholls being the highest finisher whilst Grzegorz Zengota – voted Rider of the Year by the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club – lost second place on the final bend of Heat 18 with mechanical failure after an exciting battle with Harris and Aaron Summers. The semi-final saw Iversen hit the front and Barker’s chances ended as he fell on the fourth bend attempting to sweep around Harris, whilst Hansen was left one place short of a place in the Final. With rain falling, Iversen hit the front in the deciding race only for a stoppage to be required as Andersen clipped the fence on turn two and fell, dislodging the barrier. However, the re-run saw a repeat performance as Iversen emerged clear of Harris, with Pedersen in third place. Iversen said: “It was hard work, and I didn’t really ride so well in my first couple of races. I seemed to struggle a bit but it came good when it mattered in the semi and the Final, and I’m happy I won it. “I know they’ve had a lot of rain so it was a bit patchy, but everybody got on well with the track, there were no major accidents and I think we can be pleased we got the meeting on.” SCORERS: Hans Andersen 12, Bjarne Pedersen 12, Ben Barker 11, Chris Harris 11, Kenneth Hansen 10, Niels-Kristian Iversen 9, Ryan Fisher 8, Krzysztof Kasprzak 8, Kenneth Bjerre 7, Scott Nicholls 7, Grzegorz Zengota 6, Rory Schlein 5, Jakub Jamrog 4, Ricky Wells 4, Aaron Summers 3, Sebastian Ulamek 2, James Sarjeant (res) 1. SEMI-FINAL: Iversen, Harris, Hansen, Barker.FINAL: Iversen, Harris, Pedersen, Andersen.www.coventrybees
