Be interesting to see how many changes are made to this decent looking line up. Used to be such a prestigious event but lack of rider commitment during recent years has diluted the excitement.

Think lack of interest all round, riders and supporters. They pay basic rates to riders (which is why half of them pull out) and then charge inflated prices to supporters which is why they struggle to attract a decent gate. These events have had their day which is why the pairs has been knocked on the head. That coupled with the profits go straight back to the BSPA in a share out. I smiled when I saw Hoggarts comments regarding it having found a home at Swindon, most of the clubs wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I don't think they've had their day but you've highlighted the problem. Not enough incentive for the riders but fans expected to pay top dollar to watch it. If these type of events have had their day then how do we explain the European Championship? Now that was mutton dressed up as lamb!

To be fair I thought the scramble to get in the new European Championship after previously ignoring it for years just showed exactly some riders up for exactly what they are, Nicholls who cannot even be bothered to ride for his country kicked up a real stink because he couldn't compete in it. Interesting first bit Riggers, so how many ELRC have you been to.

Don't quite see the relevance but in my enthusiastic younger days when British Speedway was the place to be (and not take the piss) I used to watch it all: NLRC, PLRC, Pride of the East (that went pear shaped when Sky arrived), the real Wembley and even to Leicester (Blackbird Road) to watch a 3 race Golden Helmet match race (Collins & Mauger I think but don't quote me). Can't remember the last (ELRC) I did. Wasn't one held at the EoES?

That's exactly my point Riggers, I used to go to the ELRC like a lot of others but haven't bothered for years, it seems we are not alone. I can remember watching Collins & Mauger in a 3 race match at Peterborough once. The NLRC championship you refer to at Peterborough is the rerun of one in 1984 after the original was rained off, a certain Ian Barney won after Dave Perks packed up when leading the run off for the title.

I mean't Div 2 Riders Championship I think. I remember my dad & some of his workmates strapping me into the mobile coffin they called a car for the trip to Wimbledon. Once to watch Mike Lanham & once to watch Our Lord Richard Greer. Same crew also drove over a foggy snake pass to watch the big boys version (Mauger and all!) at Hyde Road. Certainly needed my nappy changing after that trip. Speedway just hasn't kept pace with the SGP series, the growth and strength of previously unknown leagues and the fact that the same old product (weakened product come to that) will not hold onto existing customers or entice new one who have many many more demand/options for their disposable income I've got the Collins/Mauger prog somewhere. Will scan the front. Think they were on it.

The last ELRC I attended had so many withdrawals that quite a few of the riders were from Premier League

With another 4 days to go before this is run that line-up will surely be revised at least once more Well this is the latest as the once important & interesting individual meeting continues. Top riders generally no longer give a stuff and all but the diminishing die hard fans have caught the same bug: ELRC LINE-UP: Chris Harris (Birmingham), Rory Schlein (King’s Lynn), Scott Nicholls (Coventry), Craig Cook (Belle Vue), Troy Batchelor (Swindon), Krzysztof Buczkowski (Peterborough), Fredrik Lindgren (Wolverhampton), Hans Andersen (Swindon), Kenneth Bjerre (Peterborough), Bjarne Pedersen (Eastbourne), Davey Watt (Lakeside), Jason Doyle (Birmingham), Darcy Ward (Poole), Niels-Kristian Iversen (King’s Lynn), Grzegorz Zengota (Coventry), Peter Kildemand (Swindon). www.swindonrobinsLooks the same without dropouts but the day is young

With the EL, 16 Lapper, Brandonapolis - it seems that the way to win this is finish last, or close to it, in the qualifying competition

And no I wouldn't have him back next year either.

KING’S Lynn rider Rory Schlein has won the Elite League Riders Championship staged at Blunsdon this evening.
The Australian triumphed over Stars teammate Niels-Kristian Iversen, Belle Vue’s Craig Cook and Swindon skipper Hans Andersen in the final to win the title in a meeting held in difficult conditions.
The Abbey Stadium track was covered with sawdust before the start in an attempt to dry it out following a late afternoon shower, but the move didn’t pay off as the meeting was postponed for an hour after four heats for a prolonged spell of track grading.
The qualifying stage was cut from 20 to 16 heats in a bid to get the meeting finished, with Schlein eventually coming out on top just as he did in 2011.
Robins rider Troy Batchelor was eliminated in the semi-final while Dane Peter Kildemand fell one point short of a place in the semi.
QUALIFYING SCORES: Niels-Kristian Iversen 10, Craig Cook 9, Rory Schlein 9, Jason Doyle 9, Hans Andersen 8, Troy Batchelor 7, Scott Nicholls 7, Peter Kildemand 7, Fredrik Lindgren 6, Grzegorz Zengota 6, Chris Harris 6, Davey Watt 2, Kenneth Bjerre 2, Krzysztof Buczkowski 2, Oliver Greenwood (res) 2, Bjarne Pedersen 1, Paul Starke (res) 1, Darcy Ward 0.
SEMI-FINAL: Andersen, Schlein, Doyle, Batchelor
FINAL: Schlein, Iversen, Cook, Andersen

What happened to Darcy - thought he would have revelled in those conditions after Belle Vue the other week!!! Should think he had trouble with his wrist in the difficult conditions. He damaged it in his previous match I read.
