Speedway: Aussie Solo line-up decided - January 03, 2014
The full line-up for the 2013/14 Australian 500cc Solo Speedway Championship has been finalised after a qualifying meeting at Kurri Kurri Speedway in New South Wales on Friday night.
Eight riders were seeded into the championship rounds were (in alphabetical order):
Troy Batchelor (SA-the defending champion)
Jason Doyle (NSW)
Josh Grajczonek (Qld)
Chris Holder (NSW)
Jack Holder (NSW)
Dakota North (Vic)
Rohan Tungate (NSW)
Cameron Woodward (Vic)
The remaining eight riders who qualified on Friday night were:
Sam Masters (NSW 13),
Tyson Nelson (Qld 13),
Mason Campton (NSW 11),
Justin Sedgmen (Vic 11),
Max Fricke (Vic 11),
Kurt Shields (NSW 10),
Jake Anderson (Vic 8.) and
Daine Stevens (NSW 8.).
Non-qualifiers were:
Matthew Day (Qld 7),
Tyson Snow (Qld 7),
Jake Allen (Qld 6),
Joey Ringwood (NSW 6),
Jye Etheridge (NSW 5),
Hunter Anderson (NSW 3),
Brodie Waters (Vic 1),
Josh MacDonald (NSW 0).
Nick Morris (Qld) and
Alan MacDonald (NSW) did not ride and were replaced in the selected line-up by Josh MacDonald and Kurt Shields. Shields only came into the meeting twenty minutes before the start but managed to qualify!

Round 2, 8 January 2014, Undera Speedway VICGoulburn Valley MCC 2012 World Champion Chris Holder showed what a class rider he is at Undera Park Speedway when he overcame a terrible start (only 3 points from his first three rides), and a heavy crash in the final when hit from behind and high-sided, to win the second round of the Australian Solo Championship. Twitter this morning reporting that Batchelor has withdrawn from the final round tonight with knee ligament damaged sustained in the final crash at Undera and is expecting to have an operation this week and will be out for 6 weeks. Doesn't expect it to impact on his European commitments, we will see. Shame about the operation if true, I was going to say that it was more pride damage. Also much better to lose the title through injury rather than beaten on track as he clearly would have been. Ego in tact for the GP wannabe who isn't really at that standard still, one day perhaps  |
