Poole websiteDaily Echo speedwayPETERBOROUGH’S rapid charge up the Elite League table gained further momentum with a stunning 51-39 win at Poole on Wednesday. With belief flowing through every area of the team, the Readypower Panthers have put themselves in with a realistic chance of gate-crashing the play-offs by making it all the way into the top four – if they can keep their current run going. All of the talk at Wimborne Road was of Poole’s own play-off chances, with Greg Hancock recently signed to bolster a side already including in-form heat-leaders such as Darcy Ward and Maciej Janowski. But there is no more in-form rider in the Elite League at present than Panthers skipper Kenneth Bjerre, who sailed to his second successive maximum in what was also a major personal boost given that he will return to Wimborne Road to fight for a Grand Prix place in the GP Challenge next Saturday. Bjerre’s outstanding display was backed up by solid scoring throughout the Panthers ranks as, incredibly, neither Ward nor Janowski won a race between them and Hancock ran two last places. Panthers gained the perfect start with 5-1s in each of the first two heats and held an eight-point lead throughout most of the early stages, Bjerre steaming past Hancock on the second lap of Heat 5 to silence the home crowd. A mid-meeting Pirates fightback put the Panthers under pressure as a 5-1 in Heat 8 and a 4-2 in Heat 10 left the scores at 29-31, Dakota North having held a vital third place ahead of Hancock in Heat 9. Bjerre and Ryan Fisher restored control in Heat 11 with a key maximum over Janowski, and although the home side scraped a 4-2 in the next when Micky Dyer trapped Norbert Kosciuch for third place Bjerre held his nerve superbly to win the big Heat 13. And the conclusion to the meeting was simply special as Patrick Hougaard and Krzysztof Buczkowski charged clear of Dyer and Rohan Tungate in Heat 14, and all four league points were sealed in emphatic fashion by Bjerre and Joonas Kylmakorpi ahead of Ward and Hancock in the last race. Panthers boss Trevor Swales said: “The most pleasing thing about the performance was that every single rider chipped in with good rides, and the team spirit is absolutely amazing now. “I know we shouldn’t get too carried away, but with team spirit like that you can’t not win! It’s so buoyant at all times and they are all helping each other and geeing one another along. We did it without Ryan (Sullivan) tonight but it just shows what he’s pushed into the team, and the riders are so motivated “We were gating well, which obviously helped, but we weren’t just out-gating them – we were hustling them into and around the first turn, and they weren’t used to that. They are used to people giving up in the first turn, and we didn’t do that. “It could even have been a bigger win, but it’s got to go down as one of our best away performances for some time. “I think some of the other teams will be getting very nervous about the run we’re on now, and they’ll probably start to respect us a bit more as well. I certainly wouldn’t rule out our chances.” Panthers now have a vitally important run of fixtures in the second half of August as they need to keep picking up three points from home matches and must also take further wins on the road. Home clashes with Lakeside (Monday) and Coventry (Friday) next week offer the chance for six points, whilst trips to Birmingham (next Wednesday), Coventry (Aug 26) and Eastbourne (Aug 31) are all now vital meetings in a season which has suddenly come to life. peterboroughpanthers.co/news Wednesday August 14, 2013 Poole Pirates = 391. HANS Andersen has agreed to rejoin Poole as the reigning Elite League champions make their first move towards building their team for next season.
The Danish star started his British career with the Pirates in 2001 and last rode for the Wimborne Road club in 2009, having spent the most recent campaigns with Swindon and then Coventry. He heads back to Dorset on a 6.45 average, and with a two-year contract option which will earn him a Testimonial campaign in 2017.
Poole promoter Matt Ford said: “Hans is an absolute steal on that figure as he has been one of the top speedway riders in Britain over the last decade. I would encourage fans to look beyond the bargain 6.45 he comes back to us on as he had some issues last season which certainly impacted his progress early on.
“He is by far a much better rider than that figure suggests. In the two years prior to last year he returned figures of 8.33 and 8.34. I firmly believe that we will be able to bring the best of out of him once again and he will soon be battling out there as one of the top performers in Britain.”

That's why Ford promotes and wins and the sponsors sponsor because they can't. So is that a full transfer or loan fee taken out of the sponsorship?

As much as Ford irritates most Speedway supporters, you do have to doff your cap to him, the guy is totally switched on. You have to be on top of your game when pitting yourself against Ford and as Frost found out (and failed miserably) it's no easy gig. What bets he has Bjerre (K) as his second, second string rider.

It was really easy for the 2012 season though. Anyone who bothered to pick a side on colpanthers came up with a league winning team, but what did our management team come up with? This: 2012 PETERBOROUGH PANTHERS (starting averages in brackets): Kenneth Bjerre (9.06) Linus Sundstrom (6.90) Olly Allen (6.31) Lasse Bjerre/ Rene Bach (5.25/ 5.15) - Doubling-up Jesper B Monberg (5.02) Michael Jepsen Jensen (5.00) Richard Lawson/ Kyle Newman (3.00/ 3.00) – Doubling-up ironically ignoring their best asset still at the height of his EL powers.

BJERRE is third in the Lynn averages so counts as a heat leader Well that's royally pi$$ed on my theory. Spot on with the other though: "Peterborough’s retained list, currently held by Pirates."& why Ford wins but Readypower Panthers never did in the EL: "In my opinion, Hans Andersen is a championship-winning rider." - That's what Bratley always said: Hans wins you titles whereas Kenny B wins you jack (although that would have changed in 2013 but for a bent competition that year). However, this was so costly: Heat 15: Barker, King, Buczkowski, Bjerre; 60.3... (5-1) 46-44 - speedwayupdates/birmingham-peterborough-el-21/8/13 Bjerre and under performing Poles wouldn't have lasted 5 mins at Poole!

He's a pale shadow of the barnstorming Andersen who rode for the Panthers. That's not knocking him because he was pure class, but I still watch with interest and Panthers Andersen and today's Andersen don't really compare, but time and priorities march on for us all. As for Bjerre, if you wanted a big race winning then make sure that he wasn't in the heat.

hans was top class , ruthless looked like he was gonna be a real contender , moment he started effing about changing to GMS he was nowhere near so good Well it remains to be seen if this year was a blip for Hans, clearly Ford thinks it was. More interesting was this: 21/10/15 - PROMOTER Matt Ford is certain Back to the Future-fanatic Hans Andersen will rewind to his trail-blazing days at Poole Pirates – so much so he has committed to a two-year deal for the Dane.
Ford confirmed his first winter recruit is set to retain his place in Poole’s septet for 2017 “on the understanding British speedway does not throw up anything untoward in its rules” and will be granted a testimonial due to his standing on Peterborough’s retained list, currently held by Pirates.
4/1/15 - Ford admitted that he hoped Pirates’ association with Readypower would extend beyond the duration of the current contract. The promoter added: “It is a two-year deal and I see no reason why that wouldn’t continue.
So we can all do the maths and come to a conclusion as to where that leaves Panthers?
And the Echo's comments on Anderson: brendahayes1950 8:33am Wed 21 Oct 15: Well I hope you're right Mr Ford, fancy signing a rider who races on the same day in his own country, let's hope not too many meetings will be missed. Shame you could not seem to keep last seasons winning team Wackerone 8:43am Wed 21 Oct 15: Always trusted your judgement Matt but think you've made a mistake on this one. Hope that I'm wrong. Tempo2 8:07pm Wed 21 Oct 15: Well well how convenient to get his average at 6.45 - I smell a rat here !!!!

C'mon Rodders, we've got another year of PL, a bloke who can't gate, that bloke from Rye House and an imposed 3 pointer to look forward to. Why worry about more hot coals being put down you pants from outside sources bash
Will be interesting to see what he delivers under decent management because we rarely got a tune out of him away from the EoES. Ford and Middleditch will not put up with big home scores but naff all away.
FORD BOOKS BUCZKOWSKI
A shrewd move by Poole boss Matt Ford sees Peterborough asset Krzyzstof Buczkowski join the Pirates for 2016 on a loan arrangement.
The 29 year old Pole will slot into the Pirates seven on what Ford believes is a bargain 6.48 average attained for the 2014 campaign when he last rode in the UK then for Leicester.
Of his latest acquisition Ford said "I am happy to have him on board for next season. He has a style I like and whilst he loves to be racing on a large fast track he also has a great technique for the smaller circuits and it is those sort of riders that can make a great deal of difference to a team's fortunes. I really believe that he will develop into an out and out heat leader which will give us that bit of extra depth to the side and I am sure the Poole fans will quickly make him feel very much at home. He is a rider who I have been interested in for a while and with the rules on heat leader criteria having been ironed out during Conference I felt that now was the time to make the move for him as in my mind he ticks all the boxes."
Buczkowski's arrival coincides with the news that club captain Maciej Janowski will not be returning in 2016, at least for the start of the season. Ford said "Magic won't be back with us a starter next year as he has decided to give the UK a break as a trial. He felt that competing in three domestic leagues and the GPs was a commitment too far and as he wanted to give Sweden a go again in 2016. However he has told me that he would be happy for us to call on him should the need arise as the season ahead develops and I think I can categorically say that it is an 'au revoir' moment rather than goodbye. He remains very much on my 'wanted' list and I have every intention to have him back in the future.
Buczkowski joins Hans Andersen, Kyle Newman and Adam Ellis as confirmed 2016 Pirates and Ford believes he should very soon be able to release details of rider number five.

Another Panthers asset joins Poole!!!! It's like being a football supporter though, many fans of small clubs follow a Prem side. In the same vein, we can follow Poole but still remember this (the last time that I watched Panthers away) - Poole v Panthers (EL) Wed Aug 14 2013 I must say that I warmed somewhat to Premier League last season although I would much prefer a return to proper Speedway. On the subject of RF I suppose he should be thanked for his financial support last season and also if it continues in the coming year. However I am convinced he had no intention of running the year he left Horton in charge and cynically kept us dangling right up to the AGM. His involvement with Poole I find difficult to view as anything but a kick in the teeth for Panthers fans. Most of all however the failure of Panthers under his regime is in my mind mostly due to the quality of the management team he appointed, after discarding Bratters.

AFTER a year of unprecedented achievement tempered by the tragedy that rocked the speedway world, who could have blamed Matt Ford for calling it a day.
In guiding Poole Pirates to a third straight British championship – unrivalled in the Elite League era – the Poole Pirates promoter had secured a 22nd piece of silverware in 17 years in charge of his hometown club.
Yet as he jetted off for a winter break to Thailand with wife Helen, Ford’s mind remained preoccupied by the gut-wrenching fate suffered by Darcy Ward.
Throw in the passing of his milestone 50th birthday and the fact he had claimed every gong his sport has to offer time and time again, some in the sport might have hoped he would vacate his throne.
But whenever the Manchester United fan closed his eyes in the palatial Asian setting, all he could see was silverware glistening in the Dorset skyline.
Speedway’s answer to Sir Alex Ferguson is going nowhere.
“After Darcy’s injury, the break was much needed,” said Ford.
“We were fortunate enough to have an extended holiday and to get some sunshine. But still my thoughts when I went to bed at night were dominated by how we could win another league title.
“That was, and still is, my biggest drive. The day I don’t find it quite so important is the day I will have to step aside.
“Things happen in sport. In the past few years, I have had people approach me about selling my interest but it most certainly was not the right thing for me to do.
“Who knows what the future holds? I am not sure exactly how long I will be at the club but the most important thing is to make sure it is in the best hands.
“Whoever takes it on – and the certainty is that, one day, someone will – has to have the desire to achieve the same impact for the club and the town.
“I don’t feel we are just promoting Poole Pirates, we are promoting a wonderful town and one that means everything to me.
“I was born here, my children were born here and, in my opinion, it will always be the best town in the world.
“Whether it happens in one or 10 years, the next person has to be just as committed to making sure the trophy cabinet is as full as it currently is.”
When you look at Ford’s background, it is easy to see why Pirates have been a success.
Having started out as a shelf-stacker for tobacco and confectionary wholesaler Palmer & Harvey, the bullish young gun had an eye for business and soon moved on to selling hair products.
Ford quickly established a chain of salons, despite never being a hairdresser himself, before risking everything to buy the speedway club he had watched as a starry-eyed five-year-old.
“I think that drive to be independent and achieve something in your own right is in many people,” added Ford.
“In my case, as a child who just adored the sport and everything about it, to think I would go on to run the club was the ultimate dream.
“To play a part in making it one of the most successful clubs of all time – which is now unquestionably the case – is a result of the drive that is within many of us.
“I have always tried to be the best at whatever I have done in every aspect of my life and this has been no different.
“While I appreciate you have to taste defeat at times to understand just how great winning is, I find it a truly rotten thing.
“Losing the title in 2012 and 2010, and even going back to 1999 when we lost it in the very final race of the season when we needed a 4-2 at King’s Lynn, all of that still haunts me.
“I remember when Peterborough just pipped us in 1999. It was live on TV and absolutely heartbreaking. But those days push you on, they make you want to grab that winning feeling again and again.
“The seventh title was absolutely wonderful but now, I want lucky eight.
“We have won 22 trophies in my time here but the most important to me is the 23rd. When we have won that, it will be the 24th. Every single trophy matters.
“I get a momento of each victory, a medal or trophy, and these things probably cost £20-25. We have a slightly larger one put into our office so people can see what we have won.
“But as ridiculous as it may sound, that £20 momento is probably the biggest thing for me each season. It is recognition that we have done the job we set out to do.
“I take nothing for granted. I know we are in for a tremendous battle to reach the play-offs again this year.
"Every club wants to beat us but we owe it to everyone connected to the town, to our supporters and to our sponsors to give it our all and probably a little bit more to bring back the trophy to Wimborne Road again.”
