I don't have a smart tv (yet) and have no idea what netfix or a box set is (not interested tbh) so last night late I delved into some VHS videos 6 or 7 years ago I dabbled with a video grabber to convert them to digital but always found the provided capture software to be pretty crap, and I've never got the sound to work on playback. Lockdown time has made me think that it's time to look at the process again (before the tapes deteriorate, as some seem to have) and I'm revisiting some younger years atm. Last night I watched Panthers v Poole 1999: decent video quality but bit of a hiss to lose on the sound file. Duran Duran on MTV unplugged - decent video and sound. Phil Collins on MTV Most Wanted with Ray Cokes: Phil playing a piano in a room somewhere in England gets a call from Ray because he should be in the studio but someone got the dates wrong so he has to get to London pdq. His car will not start so he legs it across an open field (stepping in cow dung ) before missing the train and hitching to the studio - all very amusing - decent video and sound but those with Cokes in the studio are usually not the sharpest. Finally watched Panthers v Reading Bulldogs 2006 2nd leg - Massive crowd, big Skysports production, Jonathan Greene and Tatum in the studio, Suzi Perry in the pits etc - the news is out they said, suggesting that speedway was on the up and only going in one direction? Unfortunately they hadn't factored in the BSPA who can put things into reverse all so easily! - decent video and sound. Looked at the clock and it was 2am so thought that I better get some

Found a video with no label last night so put it on and it was the 2007 Speedway Grand Prix of Denmark which was the fourth race of the 2007 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on 9 June in the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark. Video was excellent quality with no hiss. Colours were a bit washy from the studio but anything from the stadium top notch. Andersen was in his prime and looking to follow up his wildcard win of 2006. He was again looking the likely winner (despite an arm/hand injury and stitches that he was apparently carrying) but he clashed with Andreas Jonsson coming off turn 2 in the first semi and shed a chain, and that was that. Apart from saying that he wanted AJ to win the final despite fellow Dane (although clearly not a friend ) Nicki Pedersen being in the race (who he'd had handbags with in heat 16) along with Adams and Gollob. - click to enlarge.

Watched some of Panthers 95 video last night up to Panthers v Eastbourne, and including the infamous Ipswich KOC 2nd leg in which the result got overturned, Pedersen knocked of Doncaster and the nutter Ben Howe rode Pedersen into the 1st turn fence. I have some new video capture software courtesy of my brother and birthday so I'll try to upload to youtube at some point.

Stuck a video on last night which was Panthers v Poole 2008 - SEPTEMBER Mon 8 POOLE HOME ELB W 47-43. That had obviously taped over Panthers v Ippo (2000) because there was half a dozen of those heats left with Joe Screen riding for Ippo (never knew that he rode for them? Think that they said Gollob (yes Gollob) was missing so I suppose that he could have been a guest? - After that was a full house at Brandon (great sight) for the 2000 SGP won by Dugard with Loram second. I think that Sullivan was 3rd? Well he gated in the final but got passed and I can't recall whether he finished because someone packed up.

Finally ditched Sky and BT Sports. When my Sky contract ran out they increased the bill from £57 to £110, this is for full package except movies. Also didn’t subscribe to Netflix. Called to cancel and as per usual, they will go a long way to keep you. Told them I no longer wanted the Sports channels (had for many many years). Just can’t take to the empty stadiums, lack of atmosphere - the extra £14.99 for matches was the final straw (heard that one match last week only gained 1,000 buyers). I found myself putting matches on but not really watching. Feel so glad I have ditched the sports.
I did thrash out a deal excluding sports but includes all other sky channels and Netflix for £39 per month. Already watched many movies and recommended box sets. No series will ever top ‘Breaking Bad’, it’s a must - so much so I’m binge watching it again. Best decision I finally made getting rid of Sky Sports. It’s certainly not VFM.

Have to say that that's the bit I'm struggling with. I will not watch football while they are taking the knee, but even if I do catch a bit I just can't watch with empty stands with banners draped over the seats. I'd only keep Sky for F1 although I'm not sure that that's going to be enough soon. Apart from them still taking the knee (I think), I was watching qualifying yesterday against the backdrop of huge empty stands and I just wondered if they'll ever be full again. Sport without fans really is pointless but that might be the new normal for many many years?

Added to that, I never know what time the bloody F1 starts. Turned on at 1pm and the race (when I say race, I mean will Hamilton's car keep going for the duration meaning that he wins) was virtually half way through - back to Columbo it was!

I have never liked F1, many outsiders say Speedway is all about first out the gate wins. F1 is so boring with a much longer first out the gate race winner, also who has the elite car. Hamilton is a first class tosser and absolute hypocrite, to which he has proved many times recently.

I ditched Skysports as well (after 25+ years with them). Told the bloke that I'm not paying to watch the banners and the general wokeness of Skysports now, or virtue signalling footballers (and officials, which probably pisses me off more) taking the knee. When/if they ever get back to just playing football then I'd probably return but not until that happens. He didn't seem that surprised or make any attempt to get me to change my mind which suggests that they don't need subscribers and have plenty of surplus cash or someone is funding their politics? I can't watch football with empty seats covered with banners either (especially the BLM banners at The Arse)! Interesting bit in the SS about Josh Auty missing the fans. He describes racing behind closed doors as a strange experience. He particularly misses the victory laps and general mixing and interaction with the fans. He describes football without fans as a different game. Amen to that brother, and that's on top of the woke virtue signalling!

They’ve all gone far too the other way and are now discriminating against white men. It’s a great time to be black or female, even more so both and gay. I’ve never been racist - it should always be the best person gets the job, whereas they are all making it look so obvious.

I’ve never been racist - it should always be the best person gets the job, whereas they are all making it look so obvious. Identity politics over the last 18 months has just made society toxic and unbearable. I'd go back firstly to Corbyn's Labour creating so much division with the likes of Izzard, Jones, McGuire, Sarker, Shabi, Butler, Abbott, Thornberry et al....... and on and on it goes (much of it Brexit related and ignoring a democratic vote) - then BLM snuck in under Covid to create a race problem while tryin to rewrite history (like you I don't consider myself racist). Is/was there a big race problem in the UK? The Premier League then mistakenly embraced the BLM cause but now seem unable to detangle themselves from their cock up, and with Comcast in charge of Sky there seems to be little let up: Thought I'd do a search on Comcast and according to Wikipedia they are not to hot on customer satisfaction and are perhaps wealthy enough and happy enough to lose subscribers, which sort of agrees with my experience. Best of all today was that the police chief who took the decision not to intervene when protesters toppled the statue of slave trader Edward Colston in Bristol has been given the Queen’s Police Medal for years of distinguished service. Superintendent Andy Bennett defended the decision made by police officers on the ground that day in the centre on Bristol, in the face of criticism from the Home Secretary Priti Patel and the Police Federation. At the time, he said the decision made was a tactical one to prevent further disorder - and after the toppling of the statue was the only criminal act that day and no one was injured, nothing else was damaged and no one was arrested, Supt Bennett was praised by mayor Marvin Rees and a number of the city’s MPs for the handling of the policing of the Black Lives Matter protest that day. All a bit heavy for the last day of the year but it would have been somewhat better without all of that crap. That's without the Green agenda
