7 Sep 2007 A new study revealed that rock stars were twice as likely to die early as the rest of us. Researchers said that the problem was so bad the industry should be labeled a 'high risk' profession.
Bit late to note: On 7 Sep 1978 Keith Moon drummer with The Who, died of a overdose of heminevrin prescribed to combat alcoholism. A post-mortem confirmed there were 32 tablets in his system, 26 of which were undissolved. Moon had attended a party the night before organised by Paul McCartney for the launch of the The Buddy Holly Story movie. He played on all The Who albums from their debut, 1965's My Generation, to 1978's Who Are You, which was released two weeks before his death.
John Alec Entwistle (9 October 1944 – 27 June 2002) was an English bass guitarist, singer, songwriter, film and music producer. In a music career that spanned more than 40 years, Entwistle was best known as the original bass guitarist for the English rock band the Who. Entwistle died in Room 658 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Paradise, Nevada, on 27 June 2002, one day before the scheduled first show of the Who's 2002 United States tour. He had gone to bed that night with Alycen Rowse, a local stripper and groupie, who awoke the next morning to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. The Clark County medical examiner determined that his death was due to a heart attack induced by a cocaine overdose. He already had heart disease and usually smoked 20 cigarettes a day.[20] Entwistle had undergone a medical for insurance purposes before the Who's tour had started. This noted high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

He is best known as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter with rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1976 until his death in the October 1977 airplane crash that claimed other band members and crew. On 15 Sep 1984 Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' became the longest running chart hit since Engelbert Humperdink's 'Release Me', after spending 43 weeks on the UK singles chart.
The song entered the UK singles chart at #77 on November 12, 1983, and was at #35 when Frankie Goes To Hollywood performed it on Top Of The Pops January 5, 1984. The song jumped to #6, and on January 11, 1984, BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read announced on air that he refused to air "Relax" because of the single's controversial artwork and lyrics. He didn't know it at the time, but the BBC was planning to ban the single, and do so soon afterward.
This was big news, and many in the UK sought out the song to hear why it was banned. Record stores had trouble keeping it in stock; a spokesman at the Aberdeen, Scotland record store One Up explained at the time: "Banning the record seems to have created an air of mystery about it. We have had people coming in asking to hear the record to find out what all the fuss is about." Some commercial radio stations in the UK put it in hot rotation, boasting they were playing "the song that BBC banned."
The song rose to #2 on January 21, and it hit the top spot a week later, becoming the first banned UK #1 since the steamy Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin duet "Je T'aime" in 1969. "Relax" was no flash-in-the-pan: It held the top spot for five weeks and stayed on the chart until October.
The BBC threw in the towel and lifted the ban in December 1984 so the band could perform it on the Christmas edition of Top of the Pops. This sent the song back up the chart for another run; it made two more chart runs in 1985.
