born 28 Sep 1953 Jim Diamond, singer, songwriter, (solo UK No.1 single 'I Should Have Know Better'), PHD, (1982 UK No.3 single 'I Won't Let You Down'). Diamond died in his on 8 October 2015, at the age of 64. According to his daughter Sara, the cause of death was a pulmonary edema.

28 Sep 1974 Bad Company went to No.1 on the US album chart with their self-titled debut album. Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke had come out of Free while Mick Ralphs had played guitar with Mott The Hoople and Boz Burrell was bass player for King Crimson before the group formed in 1973. They produced six albums together before disbanding in 1983. Similar title, Let's Rock

1979 - The Police The Police had their first UK No.1 single with 'Message In A Bottle' the group's third Top 20 hit. The song was released as the first single from Reggatta de Blanc and also topped the charts in Ireland and reached No.5 in Australia. Despite its popularity in the UK, the single only reached No.74 in the United States.

The follow-up to Slippery When Wet produced five Billboard Hot 100 top ten singles, the most top ten hits to date for a hard rock album. BORN 5 Oct 1947 Brian Johnson, singer with Geordie, who had the 1973 UK No.6 single 'Because Of You'. Joined AC/DC in 1980, after the death of Bon Scott. Had the 1980 UK No.1 and US No.4 album Back In Black, which has now sold an estimated 49m copies worldwide. Johnson's first group was called Gobi Desert Canoe Club. Bon Scott had first seen Johnson singing onstage, which included Johnson screaming at the top of his voice, rolling around on the stage, and finally being carried off. Scott didn't know that Johnson was then taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with appendicitis.

- not on the album: An absolutely amazing and chilling track by The Police. Very hard to understand how this song is underrated. One of the best police songs in my mind.
