The 2011 Grand Prix Challenge will take place at Swedish track Vetlanda on Sunday, August 21. The most cutthroat meeting in world speedway will see the top three riders secure qualification for the Grand Prix series in 2012, while those who miss out will earn series reserve places. sgp
Good news for Freddie Lindgren

The 19-year-old stormed to a 15-point maximum at Poole on Wednesday night as Pirates collected a miraculous 47-42 win over Belle Vue. Ward has also been in fine fettle for Polish First Division club Gdansk and Swedish Elitserien outfit Lejonen, and many pundits are tipping him as a leading contender to reach next year’s World Championship series. First the Queenslander must get through a tough SGP qualification semi-final at Gorican on Saturday."

Gorican qualifiers:This looks like the interesting one as Iversen confirms his level and some of the SGP field get twitchy as Ward's exclusion means one less nominated place for 2012

Not much to inspire for next year, but then the whole line up wasnt great. Lindback probably deserves his place, the other 2 have had several chances and not shone at all. Anyone want to buy a Hans Andersen cap and tee shirt? ?

Must be honest and say I agree, Pedersen and Protasiewicz have well struggled in the GP.s before and I dont see that changing next year, I am sure BSI wont be happy either.
The GP's badly need some new young stars but the old gaurd just keep going.

Anyone want to buy a Hans Andersen cap and tee shirt? ? Just what is going on with him? I keep expecting the real Hans Andersen to turn up but it never does. 5 thirds is shocking. Perhaps the real HA is lost forever? I read a tweet from him getting arsey saying that people don't understand what's going on behind the scenes (or something to the effect?). Perhaps it's a good time to open up a bit

The GP's badly need some new young stars but the old gaurd just keep going. They'll win a few races (well Pedersen might) but threatening top 8, I very much doubt it. Oh for a one off world final with all of it's drama and hard luck stories. That's 5 races counting on the night and not a one race gating contest at the end.

On any sort of form he should have been in the top 3 yesterday

Must be honest and say I agree, Pedersen and Protasiewicz have well struggled in the GP.s before and I dont see that changing next year, I am sure BSI wont be happy either. The GP's badly need some new young stars but the old gaurd just keep going. Looks like everyone clings on to the age of Gollob and Hancock when basically the majority go downhill long before that: Nordic SGP wild card Bjarne Pedersen has hit back at the critics who question what he can bring to the Grand Prix series at the age of 33.
The Eastbourne rider was handed the No.16 race jacket for Vojens just days after booking a permanent place in the 2012 World Championship by finishing second in the GP Challenge at Vetlanda.
Some have bemoaned the fact that Pedersen and 36-year-old Protasiewicz qualified alongside existing SGP star Antonio Lindback and claim they are too old to add anything to the series. But Pedersen says the sport’s youngsters had every opportunity to qualify for next year, and believes the form of Tomasz Gollob and Greg Hancock proves age is no barrier to SGP success. sgp
