RISING Swedish star Linus Sundstrom has been added to the line-up for the Brandonapolis on March 16. Sundstrom enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Elite League in 2011 for Peterborough having made a big-money winter move from Rye House, and he will be back with the Panthers again this year. His first-ever appearance at Coventry was in the Brandonapolis event staged at the end of the 2007 season. Sundstrom, 21, joins a host of big names for the Coventry season-opener, which will see Hans Andersen defend his title against the likes of multi-World Champions Greg Hancock and Nicki Pedersen, and with the Coventry top four all looking to get their hands on the trophy. Promoter Mick Horton said: “We’ve got three places remaining for the meeting and are waiting to hear back from a couple of riders to join what’s a really competitive field. “Hopefully we should be able to name the full line-up in the near future and it promises to be a great start to the season.” BRANDONAPOLIS – Friday March 16 Parade: 7.45pm; First race 8pm Confirmed starters: Hans Andersen Greg Hancock Chris Harris Maciej Janowski Edward Kennett Kenni Larsen Freddie Lindgren Scott Nicholls Nicki Pedersen Lee Richardson Rory Schlein Linus Sundstrom Sebastian Ulamek www.coventrybees

I was enjoying this thread until I was reminded of Horton Get yourself down to Brandon, say hello and shake his hand Looks like a half decent field and might be worth a visit until you remember it's Coventry which isn't known for its swift meeting presentation and running? Plus if you choose the back straight then you have to dodge the in-breds, fag smokers and juvenile types with a pint of lager in their hand - think I'll pass!

Get yourself down to Brandon, say hello and shake his hand Nice idea, but I think it would be more like Haye & Chisora! Had anyone actually heard of Chisora until the recent events?

Apart from GP's Individuals, Pairs, Fours etc dont do a lot for me, this sport is best served by team meetings although I do agree the field for the this meeting isnt bad at all.
I still find it hard to believe Mick Horton is running the show at Brandon this year, but lets be fair it could be worse, Alwalton for one.

WORLD Champion Greg Hancock is back in town as the 2012 speedway season blasts into action at Coventry on Friday evening.
The Buildbase Bees are staging the prestigious Brandonapolis individual event to kick off the new era under owner Mick Horton, and Hancock – who rode for the club from 1997-2001 – is assured of a terrific reception.
The American won his first World title when he was at Coventry, and then ensured his place in the history books by adding a second some fourteen years later. This will be his first appearance at Brandon for nearly five years.
However, Hancock is unlikely to have things all his own way as a host of other top names battle for the Brandonapolis crown, with several competitors seeing the meeting as ideal preparation for the New Zealand Grand Prix on March 31.
Defending Champion Hans Andersen is included along with his Danish rival, three-times World Champion Nicki Pedersen, and Wolverhampton’s star Swede Freddie Lindgren.
The home challenge comes from the Coventry top four with Chris Harris, Edward Kennett, Scott Nicholls and Kenni Larsen all keen to impress – and Harris will resume rivalries with Ben Barker, who just beat him to the Ben Fund title at Birmingham last weekend.
Barker is one of several former Coventry riders in the meeting, which also includes Ryan Fisher who finished the 2011 season as captain of the Buildbase Bees prior to his winter move to Plymouth, and the current Elite League Riders’ Champion Rory Schlein.
Some of the sport’s big stars of the future are also included, such as World Under-21 Champion Maciej Janowski, and Peterborough’s Linus Sundstrom.
The meeting will be run over 20 qualifying heats with the top two riders going straight to the Final, and the next four racing-off for the last two places.
Coventry co-promoter Colin Pratt said: “The Brandonapolis is a prestigious event with a long history attached to it. It’s good to have it on the calendar, and of course it’s well-timed with several of the top boys having the New Zealand Grand Prix later in the month.
“A big welcome back to Greg, to win two World titles some fourteen years apart is an absolutely remarkable achievement in what has been an outstanding career, and I know he’s still keen to go for another one.”
Pre-meeting entertainment comes courtesy of the Bigfoot Monster Truck, with the official parade at 7.45pm and the first race at 8pm. The new restaurant and Track Shop will be operational, with an auction of race-jackets and a superb framed Hancock photograph taking place in the under-stand bar after the racing. Proceeds from the 50/50 draw on the night will go to the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.
Admission is £20 for adults, £16 for OAPs/students, £8 for under-16s and under-11s go free. Gates open at 6pm.
LINE-UP: Fredrik Lindgren, Ben Barker, Ryan Fisher, Scott Nicholls, Nicki Pedersen, Maciej Janowski, Lee Richardson, Rory Schlein, Linus Sundstrom, Sebastian Ulamek, Hans Andersen, Greg Hancock, Edward Kennett, Kenni Larsen, Chris Harris, TBC.

Not an early finish either, meeting finished after 11pm. Exactly why Brandon is fine to visit a couple of times a season but far too tedious to do it any more than that, especially for individual meetings.

Strictly down to team meeting against the Panthers, even then I have to bite my tongue at that idiot of a commentator (Peter York) and the fact that they only run meetings at one pace at Brandon (very slowly).
