Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony today (April 15) held a high-powered meeting with top Peterborough City Council officials over the future of the club’s London Road stadium.MacAnthony presented his four options to Council Chief Executive Gillian Beasley and Council Leader Marco Cereste during a 90-minute meeting held at the football ground. The club currently rent a stadium MacAnthony described as an ‘old fashioned, run-down dump’, from the council at £500,000 per year. “I have an economic assessment report that put that value at £10 million and that figure astonished me. Championship football is clearly an attractive proposition for any city. “But I would love that football to be seen at a venue the city can be proud of. There is no doubt that the matchday experience would be far better if we didn’t play at an old fashioned, run-down dump.“Anyway it’s decision time now, it’s showtime. It’s time to deceide what we want as a city. It’s time for the ground to return to the club’s hands. The ball is now in the council’s court.” peterboroughtoday
