February 1: Peterborough United accepted a transfer deadline day bid of £1.5 million for star player Lee Tomlin from Middlesbrough according to reports in the North East.
Those same reports suggest that Posh rejected a bigger bid from Wolves, but the club were not keen to sell to a League One promotion rival.
Tomlin has moved to Championship side Middlesbrough on loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season. The 25 year-old scored 43 goals in 156 appearances for Posh following his move from Rushden & Diamonds in August 2010.
If the transfer fee is correct - and neither club have confirmed it - it would represent a big profit on a player now blighted by a terrible disciplinary record, but it is less than the £2.5 million Posh turned down when Celtic tried to sign the player just five months ago.
Tomlin has suffered eight red cards in his career. Six have arrived during his three-and-a-half years at London Road, three of them this season and he must serve a three-match band before he can make his debut for Boro.
Posh have clearly lost patience with their temperamental talent. Posh boss Darren Ferguson lambasted Tomlin publicly after his dismissal at Swindon last month claiming ‘if Lee was misbehaving in order to force a move it wouldn’t work’.
Only 36 hours before Tomlin moved Ferguson stated that he didn’t expect to lose a player who ‘was as fit as he’s ever been and who was looking forward to the last 15 games of the season’, but he was also admitted that ‘he couldn’t stop clubs bidding’ and that ‘if the bid was big enough it would have to be considered’.
Posh appear to have lined up a replacement who will arrive on loan when the transfer window re-opens on February 7. Chairman Darragh MacAnthony described the new arrival as ‘a number 10’. Posh also believe they have secured a second loan arrival who will arrive on the same day.

Peterborough United's Lee Tomlin joins Middlesbrough permanently
Middlesbrough have signed Lee Tomlin permanently, three weeks after joining on loan from Peterborough United.
Boro have paid an undisclosed fee for the 25-year-old forward, who has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal, ending a four-season spell at London Road.
Tomlin is yet to feature for the Championship side because of a three-match suspension triggered by a sending off in his final Posh appearance.
He could make his Middlesbrough debut in Saturday's game against Leeds.

No loss, too many detentions - well overrated in my opinion. No pace, never looked fit and far too easy to wind up. Another CL bargain awaits - a business model that has served well. That's how you play Fifa in the lower leagues.

That's how you play Fifa in the lower leagues. Bit harsh thread title on reflection:Well he's made the Prem as Posh face another year of averageness in L1. Tomlin (and yes I used to moan about him as well) is very much a reminder of Posh's quality days, and much like not fully embracing Frost & Mahoney (not litereally of course, that'd just be strange), is another example of be careful what you wish for. This is the first time for years that I don't hold either a Posh or Panthers season ticket as both clubs have decided to settle at a level without ambition or direction (although that's not the primary reason for not having one in either case). D'Mac still talks a good game but Panthers are flat, although survival is probably their main aim understandably? As for this transfer, seems a communication and role responsibility breakdown here. I thought the manager did have a big input in such decisions and/or would the able to give Tomlin some assurances which probably wouldn't satisfy anyway? When the head gets turned then that's it! Aitor Karanka denies Lee Tomlin's Middlesbrough exit claimHead coach Aitor Karanka has rejected Lee Tomlin's claims he left Middlesbrough for Bournemouth because he was "not wanted" on Teesside. Tomlin, 26, joined Boro from Peterborough United in January 2014 and went on to score 14 goals in 64 games, including 11 in 50 last term. The £3m deal made Boro £1.5m profit in the 18 months at the Riverside. "I never push players to leave when the player is comfortable with the team," Karanka told BBC Tees. "Last season Lukas Jutkiewicz came to my office asking to go to Burnley because it was an amazing opportunity. "This season Tomo came to my office and he said he had an offer to play in the Premier League, I said it wasn't my decision, it was about the club. "I didn't want to break his dreams to play in the Premier League. The main thing for me is the team and I want to have the players happy." Striker Jutkiewicz joined newly-promoted Burnley in July 2014, moving up a division in the process. BBC
