I'm always concerned by these sort of stories but have become less so since the new stadium was built in Manchester. I didn't expect it to be, so hopefully the same happens here:
Swindon Robins owner Terry Russell has confirmed the club will start the 2016 season racing at the old Abbey Stadium.
Delays to the start of building work on their new venue, which was due to be completed in the spring, have set alarm bells ringing in the sport.
And despite staging a farewell meeting at their existing home in October, Russell has revealed the Robins, led by SGP star Jason Doyle, will start next year’s Elite League campaign there, before transferring to their new stadium next door.
Russell explained: “First and foremost let me say this – Swindon will be at the tapes and racing in the 2016 Elite League. We have always had an agreement in place with our landlords, Stadia UK that the current Abbey Stadium facility would remain operational until the new stadium is ready.
“The delays during the last three months have been caused by the need to install acoustic barriers, but I am pleased to report we are almost there with this. I am reassured by Stadia UK that our fans will be able to see the new stadium well on the way when we host our first meeting at the Abbey next season.
“We are planning to race the first half of our home league fixtures on the current Abbey track and to move across to the new stadium mid-season (July?).
“So the Robins will be riding in the new stadium next season and it will be a very nice facility for the sport. A lot of work has already gone into this and once the acoustic barrier has been passed and is ready to go, things will happen very quickly.
“There have been delays and they have been frustrating. But we will be racing in 2016 and we are looking forward to it, particularly with the signings we have made so far.
“I must also emphasise the Abbey Farewell we staged in October remains the official farewell meeting. There is no way we will be doing another. It’s time to look forward with enthusiasm and optimism about our chances of reaching the play-offs.”

Many of us would prefer Panthers news!!! What news is there though? One team place to go. New sponsor needed. Fixture list - that's about it isn't it? That's not going to take up too much time. Hopefully we'll be going in search of rocking horse droppings at some point in the future. I like to see if these projects come to fruition. I'm still waiting for the racecourse at Thorney, motorsport complex at Fengate and Posh's new all seater stadium.

If you gave me £50 to bet yes or no about this happening in 2016, I'd be on no Swindon’s Abbey Stadium operators Stadia UK have revealed July is the realistic target for the new stadium to be ready for action. Robins owner Terry Russell this week updated worried fans to assure them the Elite League club will be at the tapes in 2016 and racing the first half of their home meetings in the existing facility. Stadia UK confirmed initial hopes were of construction starting before Christmas on the new site, adjacent to the current Abbey track, but unexpected delays have been brought about by the design of noise attenuation structures and utility services. Reserves matters – plans detailing aspects of the stadium’s design – are now expected to be submitted to Swindon Borough Council before Christmas with construction work commencing as soon as the plans have been approved. Clarke Osborne, chairman of holding company TokLon said: "We are disappointed that issues beyond our control have resulted in this delay to our expected timetable as we had intended to have the new facility complete in time for the Robins opening meeting in April next year. “However even the best laid plans can be delayed, particularly when there are multiple factors to be considered, particularly the need to build the new facility in close proximity to the existing while the existing is fully operational." George Edwards, property director at Stadia UK said: "We will be submitting the reserved matters application this month and we hope to be ready for the first customers sometime in July 2016. “We have received great support from Swindon Council and our team have worked very hard to ensure that the changeover from the existing to the new facility is smooth and easy for our customers. There will be disruption during the process but our aim is to keep this to a minimum.” Bill Glass, operations director at Stadia UK added: “We are employing the latest building techniques, which dramatically reduce the construction time and have ensured that our greyhound and speedway racetracks are built to the highest standards of design, drainage and surfacing. “Uniquely, the new stadium racecourse has been designed for ease and quality of media coverage, from the specification of lighting to multi-camera facilities.” speedwaygp.com/news/july-date-for-swindon-stadium 4/12/15

So one assumes that the BSPA have already agreed what they are doing next year, at least. It's usually only in Poland and Sweden that we get this type of news with riders signing for the following season. Good news for the top flight though, you never know we might join it again at some point!
FIM Speedway World Championship contender Jason Doyle has confirmed he'll be staying at British Elite League club Swindon Robins for the next two years.
Doyle, fresh from a sensational win in the MIB Nordic Gorzow SGP on Saturday, revealed to a packed Blunsdon crowd at their 57-33 win over Leicester (1/9/16) that he will be with the club in 2017 and 2018.
And he says the Robins fans played a major part in his decision as he plans to celebrate his British speedway testimonial next year.
"The Swindon fans have backed us through thick and thin, and this feels the right thing to do," said Doyle.
"When something feels 100 percent right, there's no point hanging around and I'm pleased to have a contract in place for British racing in September.
"Maybe I can have a testimonial next year too – but I'm not the kind of guy who has a testimonial and then disappears, which is why I've agreed a two-year deal. I'm really pleased."

Aussie star Jason Doyle described average hikes for British speedway’s biggest stars as a “massive kick in the teeth” as he starts 2017 on a 13.41 average for Swindon.
The Newcastle-born racer may have established himself as one of the sport’s top stars and won four FIM Speedway Grand Prix rounds in 2016.
But that didn’t stop him from fearing he’d be left out of a job by BSPA promoters voting to increase top-flight riders’ averages by 40 percent in team-building changes aimed at cutting costs for clubs.
Luckily for Doyle, Swindon kept faith with him and honoured his two-year deal for 2017 and 2018. But the move has forced Poole legend Chris Holder out of Wimborne Road, where he has raced since 2008.
Averages are based on the points a rider scores over four heats and were previously capped at a maximum of 12.00.
So Doyle is stunned to see the likes of him, Niels-Kristian Iversen (12.66) and Holder (12.53) left on averages over that mark, forcing any team willing to employ them to spend over a quarter of their available points recruiting one man.
He said: “I wrote on Twitter, asking the BSPA why they couldn’t cap all the top riders at 12.00.
“Chris Holder has been a long-serving member of British speedway and he has lost his place at Poole. It’s a massive kick in the teeth, and not just for the Australians. Niels is over 12.00 too.
“We’ve all done right by Great Britain and now it seems like the rules are changing and we’re the ones suffering.
“If we’d known the rules were going to change halfway through August, I’m sure a lot of teams would have dropped their averages and we wouldn’t have been in this situation.”
Doyle insists British speedway’s top names aren’t demanding too much money from clubs.
He said: “I’ve had comments from people, saying we’re earning too much. But if you look back at years gone by, the boys were on a lot more money than we are in Britain.
“I know things have changed and the sport is changing, but I think they need to have another look into it. They have gone the wrong way.”
Doyle believes riders should get the chance to have their say on potential rule changes before they are passed by BSPA members.
He said: “Maybe we need to have a couple of riders present at these big meetings. Hopefully they can put their input into it. Maybe it could be someone like Screenie (Joe Screen). He’s a Brit and he wants to see the sport succeed.
“We need these older boys and a couple of people who are still riding, who can put in a bit of input, so it’s not just promoters thinking about themselves.
“If you water down the sport, fans are going to drop off. It’s pretty much two Premier Leagues now. It’s not Elite League. It’s going to be great speedway, but we want and I want the best riders back in Britain.
“I know people are saying Poland and Sweden are where the money is. But if they listen to the riders, we can change a few things that can get these big boys back.

So Swindon won the 2017 EL clone.
Despite having BT sport I haven't watched any domestic league speedway in 2017. It bears no resemblance to Peterborough speedway's northern league these days so I just can't get interested in it.

I will always watch Speedway on TV but the racing at most of the PL tracks has been dreadful. It was only the score in the final that kept it interesting. I’m amazed they are going ahead with the ludicrous relegation play off. Surprised if BT stick with this shambles.

I’m good, but not that good. You should have started with ‘a cunning plan’ For some reason I can put up with Smashy & Nicey but can’t stand whiter than White Jim. Yet they work in a similar way. Guess I just appreciate anyone that promotes Speedway. Commentators that support the sport - Natalie Quirk is very good and also a supporter. Really hope BT stick with it. Not very confident they will.

Well I thought British Speedway had stopped the rot by going to fixed nights to up the quality but it's another nail as the current World Champion says adios:
Swindon Robins have confirmed world champion Jason Doyle won’t return to Blunsdon in 2018.
JD had a season left on the two-year contract he agreed with the Robins, and no reason was given why they have released him.
But in a statement, the club insist the split was amicable and hailed Doyle as “one of our all-time greats.”
The statement read: “It is with great reluctance that we confirm world champion Jason Doyle will not be returning to Swindon for the 2018 season.
“Jason has been a loyal performer in Robins colours during his spells with the club, winning two league titles along the way as well as his own personal glory this year with the highest honour in the sport. He will go down in the club’s history as one of our all-time greats and this decision, reached in an amicable and mutually respectful manner, was most difficult.
“Jason said: ‘Thank you Swindon for the last two seasons captaining a great club! Sadly I won't be coming back for 2018. Good luck.’
“Swindon Speedway would like to wish Jason every success for the future and we are confident he will win more world titles along the way. He will always be popular at Swindon, we are sure of that.
“Meanwhile, we are committed to piecing together the best possible team within the regulations as we strive to win a second successive Premiership title in 2018. We will issue further updates on signings as we progress in the coming weeks.”

Boomerang Batchelor returns: - who's he on loan from this time?
TROY Batchelor is returning to Swindon in 2018 for a third spell with the reigning SGB Premiership champions.
Batchelor left the Robins at the end of the 2015 season but played a starring role in King’s Lynn’s away win at the Abbey last May, although he subsequently did not see out the season with the Stars.
He said: “It’s great to be back at Swindon - it’s always been a successful and well-run club.
“I’m familiar with a lot of faces there and the riders too. I did a few guest bookings last year with Swindon, and as most of the team are staying for 2018 we should all fit in and get on well.
“I’m excited for 2018 to start, especially after missing some of 2017, but it only makes me more determined to do well. I hope we can have a successful season and put on great show throughout.”

Popped in to the bookmakers yesterday, first time for years. Used to be great places to escape for a bit of peace (sort of old style British pub without the booze), but now it's just screens, betting terminals, noise, never ending dross from all over the world to lose money on, and bereft of people!
Anyway, that aside, Swindon dogs popped up. The place looked fine. Another one where you wonder, why isn't the speedway running? The track looked fine on the inside of the greyhound track?

Noise would be my guess. Apart from a tannoy dogs don’t make the noise of a Speedway race. I was gobsmacked when Peterborough dogs closed after Covid. It was an absolute goldmine. Since heard very recently many naughty things going on in the background caused the closure, allegedly.
