Doyle puts himself in serious contention for the title as Hancock stutters and unconvincing Woffinden still collects a decent score to make the rostrum. Good night for Pedersen who finds some speed and put himself in touch with the top 8.

Good night for Pedersen who finds some speed and puts himself in touch with the top 8. Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen insisted “I just want to show my best for the rest of the season” after roaring back into form at the MIB Nordic Gorzow SGP last Saturday. The Danish icon stormed to 12 points, topping the heat scorechart before exiting at the semi-final stages. But it was comfortably his best SGP performance of 2016 after weeks and months of working furiously to find some fast equipment. Pedersen insists he’s back on the right track as he stands ninth in World Championship on 55 points – just five short of Piotr Pawlicki, who occupies the eighth and final qualifying place for 2017. The world No.3 is determined to secure his SGP spot for next year as he looks to the future. He said: “I just want to show my best for the rest of the season and then I can’t wait for a new season. I haven’t forgotten how to race speedway overnight. I just haven’t been lucky. Things have to go in the right direction, which they haven’t before. But they are now. “We’re getting there. Malilla was slightly getting there. It was even better in Gorzow. It showed that small things are improving. We slipped away a little bit in heat 20 and the semi-final. But we know what we did wrong and what we need to do better. It was a step in the right direction. “We have some new equipment that I am getting to know. It takes some time to know it 100 percent. We haven’t had this all season, so we’re working uphill to know what to do with it. It’s not enough to have good equipment if you didn’t know how it works. “I had my best engine back and something happened to it in practice. Luckily we had a brand new engine we could chuck in that I had never tried. It was lucky. It worked the same as the other engine I had. “On a surface like this, the equipment is the same for most of the riders, so it’s down to knowing the setup and knowing what to do when it gets slick. I changed a few things and I was happy halfway through the meeting. Towards the end, we slipped away a bit and we made a few changes. We made one mistake in the semi-final, but when I know what I’ve done wrong, I feel I’m still improving. I’m picking up points and I’m fighting towards the top eight.” SGP (Friday 2nd September 2016)
