PREMIERSHIP title winner Adam Ellis has signed for Sheffield Tigers.
Ellis, who won the league with Swindon in 2019, has been on the market since the Robins announced they would be sitting out 2021 due to stadium development.
The Great Britain international is highly rated and will combine his Tru Plant Tigers duties with racing in Poland and Sweden.
And he’s revealed how he has always wanted to race for Sheffield following previous visits in the opposing camp.
“I’m really excited to have signed for Sheffield this season,” he said. “It’s a club I’ve wanted to race for for a few years now and I want to thank Marc and Damien Bates and Simon Stead for having me on board in 2021.”
Ellis is encouraged by the improving situation regarding the pandemic in the UK with the season set to start on May 17.
He said: “The news coming from the UK looks really positive at the moment, so fingers crossed we can get the season started in May with fans on the terraces.”
Ellis isn’t quite ready to start practice for the new season, which under normal circumstances would be starting this month.
“As we won’t be starting until May I’ll wait until April to get out on the bike,” he said. “I’m keeping busy doing some work on the house but I’m really looking forward to getting out there.
“It’s still a worrying time for the sport worldwide but Britain and the vaccine seems to be in a much better place. I can’t wait to catch up with the boys at Sheffield and go racing.”
Ellis is the second Swindon rider to make the switch to South Yorkshire as he joins Aussie ace Troy Batchelor. Other confirmed signings are Kyle Howarth, Jack Holder and Josh Bates with two remaining places to be confirmed.

Due to Polish, Swedish commitments and the uncertainy of travel.

You did read that but the uncertainty of Europe and the fact that the U.K. is 3 months or so ahead on the vaccine front means things have changed. It will be interesting to see when the other leagues in Poland, Sweden and Denmark get the go ahead to start.

It will be interesting to see when the other leagues in Poland, Sweden and Denmark get the go ahead to start. Just heard on the radio today that Poland allegedly has its biggest increase in Covid cases since November which could be problematic, especially since the vaccine program in the EU is currently an absolute car crash. You could see Poland shutting up shop and saying that you race here and nowhere else, making the UK,Sweden and Denmark the best multi country option in 2021 although it’s gonna be fingers crossed for a smooth run throughout the 2021 season. Covid is going to be seasonal though and things should improve with British Summer Time only a few weeks away, but as things stand I wouldn't want to be planning anything for October and onwards.

Aussie ace Jack Holder admits his desire to base himself in the UK prompted him to choose Sheffield over Sweden this year.
The Torun ace was due to line up for Vastervik in the Bauhaus Elitserien, but withdrew from their squad when Polish authorities introduced rules limiting PGE Ekstraliga riders to racing in one other league.
Holder signed for SGB Premiership newcomers Sheffield for 2020, but was unable to make his debut after the season was cancelled due to the pandemic. He’s set to be one of the star riders in British speedway this year and his return comes as a huge boost to the Yorkshire club as it steps into the top flight.
Many of the sport’s top names opt to race in Sweden if they are keen to add to their Polish fixtures. But Holder admits that if he wants to live in the UK during the European season, he will need to race there.
He said: “Sweden is a pretty hard league and the money wasn’t very good. I want to live in Britain and if I want to live there, I have to have a visa there.
“I am quite happy to give Sweden a miss and race in the UK. Then I can just do that and Poland.
“One hundred percent I want to be back in the UK, living there as normal and riding in two leagues again.
“Sheffield has a really good line-up. It would be good if we could get going and get back to a bit of normality. I have missed racing in the UK for a long time, with the fans and all that kind of stuff.
“Losing last year was a bit of a bummer. Nicki Pedersen was going to be at Sheffield and Crumpy (Jason Crump) is making a bit of a comeback. It was going to be really good for everyone. Things just didn’t work out, but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel now.”
Holder is currently spending much of his time in Poland, where the league season started on April 4.
With flight schedules and demand for seats badly hit by pandemic travel restrictions, hopping between Poland and the UK is not the easy task it once was. But Holder is hopeful logistical issues won’t stop him taking his place with the Tigers.
He said: “I’m hoping to be there. That’s the plan anyway. At the moment it is hard to say how it is going to work.
“Last year everything wasn’t as bad as it is this year in Poland. Now they are getting a lot more cases and we are in lockdown at the moment. No shops are open or anything like that.
“No-one really knows what’s going on, but it’s good to see the UK is getting on top of it. Let’s hope it keeps improving.
“At the moment everyone is sort of guessing if we can travel back and forth without having to quarantine or have more tests.
“It’s a bit of a hard one if no-one really knows what’s going on with flights. You could fly back to the UK, but then the next day or overnight they could change the rules and then you can’t get back to Poland. Then I’m stuck in England and get fined for not riding for Torun.”
Travel restrictions have an impact beyond the sport for the Holder family. Jack’s older brother Chris spends as much time as he can in the UK, as his son Max lives in Dorset.
The siblings enjoyed a strong summer as they led Torun back into the PGE Ekstraliga, with Jack also starring for Gorzow in the top flight. But logistical issues meant they didn’t see the nine-year-old as much as they wanted.
Chris spent the European off-season in the UK to stay close to Max and Jack is gutted they could be facing another summer battling travel troubles.
He said: “Last year we were stuck out in Poland so Chris didn’t see Max. He made up for lost time in the winter, but now we’re doing the same thing again!
“Me and my brother have a flat in Ferndown (near Poole), so we stay just down the road from Max. When we are back, he is down at ours pretty much every day. So we just need to get back there.”

So when we go to Sheffield or Sheffield comes visiting and these two are in 13 & 15 then which Panthers will stop 10-2?
