The Supporters Club Facebook page has 2.3k members and the Peterborough Panthers Speedway page has 9.4k members so a response of 500 (& climbing slowly) to the petition, albeit early days, is going to be nowhere near good enough. For the fight to be taken seriously by PCC it's going to need 10% of those people to respond at least. That's only 1170 people (although many more is preferable) and around 50% of the supporters club FB membership so not an unrealistic target.

I have signed the petition , but my experience of such it that you may feel better for doing so but they make no difference. The stark reality is that whoever the owners of the showground are , they are the owners and can do what they want regarding a lease. The only long term solution is for a site owned by the club

Peterborough Speedway is alive (although on life support) with fit for purpose facilities so that's what we have to work with and fight for. We have about 8 weeks to save 2024 and probably the club itself.

This particular petition with change.org is not recognised by Peterborough City Council. I never started this petition and was unaware that someone had decided to do it. I posted the link in various places to gauge the traction, the reason being if we were to start a petition from the councils website it would need 7150 signatures to get noticed and be discussed at a full meeting of the council, the next meeting being in October. You only (I think) get a month to collect signatures before the petition gets closed. This will take a bit of planning. Is it even possible to get 7150 signatures in a month? Thoughts?

The petition could have done with a better, shorter, less emotive title and better wording within it. I am a pedant though!! As I said, the club's collective Facebook pages (club/supporters club) have over 11,000 members and if an official club call for immediate action (explaining the situation as you do) went out then who knows. They could also potentially, if allowed, use proof of signing (guess that you'd get an e-mail?) as a competition entry, with a worthwhile prize, not something found in a drawer. Problem is that since Chapman's announcement in 2022 we seem to have just given up and accepted our fate which is very disappointing but not surprising.

The issue at the moment is that AEPG have yet to show their hand, although their intention is clear, the venue is seasonal, they believe they should be charging £7k a meeting in rent (crackers), Kings Lynn and Leicester are close by, the attendance is poor, we can provide leisure activities all year round for more people with our wellness and coffee shops. They say they want to consult with the community, but I must have missed the memo asking as a resident what I wanted. The leisure activities is what they want, but we all know the things they will include will be another stack of white elephants, just like the Arena, which now stores cars, because no one listens when their eyes are on that pot of gold end game.

When do we get to see this planning application and all supporting paperwork?
Didn't they delay the meeting v Ipswich due to people wanting to get in? When I stood up at the break to inform my sister of the crowd size the stand was full left and right. I hadn't seen that for a long while although the crowd has held up very well in recent years considering some of the dross served up. Most, if not all speedway tracks would be well happy with our crowd.
What are they comparing it with?

Had a very good meeting with our local councillor this afternoon, she’s very much on Speedway’s side. I have a clear roadmap now of what we can or cannot do at this moment in time, but before I show my hand I need to talk with certain people.

Seems to me we have been abandoned by those could help Chapman and Tomlin. Who if anyone would be willing or even trusted to continue if the possibility should occur. We do not of course know the whole story but Tomalin comes across as all mouth and trousers.

We need a coordinated council petition campaign, apparently we don’t need 7150 signatures, a few hundred will get it on the full council agenda and when that takes place we need people assembling outside the town hall to show support. But first, I must speak with Buster and any potential investors of the club.

Just needs to say the right things, focussing on facts and issues without the emotion.

The leisure activities is what they want, but we all know the things they will include will be another stack of white elephants, just like the Arena, which now stores cars, because no one listens when their eyes are on that pot of gold end game. LP30.l. was always the worry because reasonable proximity is not defined and is open to interpretation and in the eye of the beholder, or planning approver! So firstly let's look at service provided. Do either of those mentioned (if that is their argument) provide the same quality action, facilities and customer experience as Peterborough Speedway at the EoES? Not in my book. Given that both of those named survive the winter I'd say that Kings Lynn doesn't match the criteria although I can't recall the last time that I went, which says much about service provided and proximity. As for Leicester, never been, which also says something about service provided and proximity. Haven't read many kind words about it? We've had issues with working people getting to meetings for 7.30 and with kids who have school next day. We also have a significant number of older and disabled fans so is an enforced 80 mile weekday round trip reasonable or environmentally friendly for a Green council and development? 36.k needs a bit of thought because although the site is fit for purpose there will clearly be ongoing running and maintenance costs that need to be met by someone. I don't know what viable for redevelopment for new community facility means because the facility is already there and fit for purpose. LP30.m. is the easy bit because there is no chance that their proposal details a Peterborough Speedway clone at an on or off site location.

SHOWGROUND DEVELOPMENT. At last, the council has published AEPG's planning applications (there are two) to develop the showground. You can read and comment on the plans on the council's planning portal at www.peterborough.gov.uk/council/planning-and-development/planning-and-building/search-applications references 23/00400/OUT and 23/00412/OUT Note these are 'outline' applications so do not contain all the detail. That will follow in future applications. The council's outline application consultation is now open for 30 days.
