Swedish hotshot Antonio Lindback warmed up for the FIM Scandinavian Grand Prix with a stunning 16 paid 17 points for Indianerna away to Hammarby on Tuesday night.
But it was not enough to save the Elitserien leaders from crashing to a 47-42 defeat against the Stockholm outfit.
Lindback, racing at reserve, dropped his only point of the night to Hammarby’s Ukrainian star Andrey Karpov in race two. But he was unbeaten by an opponent in his final five outings.
The home side went into the meeting without Tomasz Gollob, who still seems to be feeling the effects of a knee injury he suffered at Gorzow on Thursday night.
But his fellow countryman Grzegorz Walasek continued his superb season in Sweden by topping the Hammarby scorechart with 14 points from six. Rory Schlein backed him up nicely with 12 paid 14.
Lindback’s main support came from Polish World Cup winner Piotr Protasiewicz, who racked up 10 for the Indians. But with Danish stars Bjarne Pedersen and Niels-Kristian Iversen managing just a point each, the team’s usually solid septet crumbled.
Elsewhere, Kenneth Bjerre made up for losing his Danish title to Nicki Pedersen last Friday by bagging a 14 paid 15-point maximum as Lejonen won 51-39 at home to Vastervik.
World Under-21 champion Darcy Ward celebrated his Torun SGP wild card call-up by scoring 13, while his compatriot Troy Batchelor impressed at No.1 with 10 paid 11.
Rafal Okoniewski led the visitors’ on nine points, while Nicolai Klindt scored eight paid nine. But British rider Chris Harris’ woeful recent run continued with just four points from as many rides.
Grand Prix duo Jaroslaw Hampel and Jason Crump contributed 11 points apiece for Vetlanda as they thrashed visitors Vargarna 54-36.
Janusz Kolodziej made up for a retirement in his opening ride by rattling off three heat wins to finish on nine – a mark matched by Peter Karlsson.
British racer Lee Richardson scored 12 points for Vargarna on his old home track, but Nicki Pedersen had a quiet night by his high standards and managed just seven paid eight.
In the night’s other meeting, Swedish champion Andreas Jonsson notched 12 paid 14 points for Dackarna. But he was unable to prevent Valsarna pair Grigory Laguta and Daniel Nermark from getting the last-heat 5-1 they needed to snatch a 45-45 draw.
AJ finished at the back in the deciding race, but he was unbeaten by the home riders in his opening four outings. This was until Laguta pipped him to the flag in heat 14 and then saved Valsarna’s day in the nominated race to end a superb meeting on 15 paid 16.
Hans Andersen notched nine points from six, while Artur Mroczka and Danny King scored seven for Dackarna. SGP regular Rune Holta’s stuttering season continued as he tallied just six.
There is no doubt the Malilla team missed the injured Freddie Lindgren as rider replacement proved a poor substitute for the second Tuesday running.
