BRITISH FINAL - IT'S WIDE OPEN!WOLVERHAMPTON Speedway owner Chris Van Straaten believes Monday’s British Final at Monmore is the most open in recent years. Van Straaten is proud to host the showpiece event for a second successive season and a bumper crowd is expected, especially with so many West Midlands-based riders from Wolves (Tai Woffinden), Birmingham (Danny King and Ben Barker) and Coventry (Eddie Kennett) in the field. And special guests for the night will be husband and wife duo Hugh Porter MBE, the four-time World Cycling champion who is also a Freeman of the City of Wolverhampton, and Anita Lonsbrough MBE who won gold for swimming in the 1960 Olympics in Tokyo. Said Van Straaten: “It’s a tremendous line-up and very hard to predict a winner. It’s the most open for years. “Not only is the national title on the line which every British rider wants, but there is also the opportunity to qualify for the British Grand Prix at Cardiff as the wildcard. “We are very proud to stage this event and we look forward to welcoming the fans, the riders and our special guests.” There’s also free face painting for the youngsters. Said Van Straaten: “ I’m sure there will be a lot of children with British colours splashed on their face. It should be a great night for the whole family.” wolvesweb Yawn @skygraemebailey Graeme BaileyTweeps, if you havent never seen #speedway before, check it out tonight on SkySports2HD British final, with the legendary @nigelpearson ;D

Yes it's your opportunity to hear Pearson & Tatum wittering on about Cardiff spasmodically throughout the evening:
MONDAY TEAM NEWS - BUILDBASE BEES v EASTBOURNE (7.30pm)
THRILLING Russian star Emil Saydfutdinov will make his first Brandon appearance in Coventry colours against Eastbourne on Monday (7.30pm).
Sayfutdinov’s home debut has been delayed since a rain-off against Poole on May 30, but he is declared at No.1 for the clash with the high-flying Eagles, with the Buildbase Bees expecting to finally have essentially a full-strength team on track.
They have not raced with a complete top five since early May, but they are able to declare all of their regular riders for this fixture – and there is a boost at reserve too, with Nick Morris back from injury and lining up alongside new signing Peter Kildemand.
Second-placed Eastbourne already have three away wins this season and only lost top spot in the Elite League table when they were beaten at Poole last Wednesday.
The Eagles include two ex-Bees riders in Lewis Bridger and Joonas Kylmakorpi, whilst reserve Lukas Dryml piled-up a massive paid-20 score in their 50-40 KO Cup first leg win over Wolverhampton on Saturday.
Bees boss Alun Rossiter said: “It will be great to see Emil finally racing at Brandon and I’m sure our fans will give him a great welcome, and we’re also confident that Peter can do the job for us at reserve so it’s two new faces for the home supporters.
“But it’s certainly going to be a very tough match. Eastbourne have had a really good season so far and we have to respect their away record. We will need to be on our game to get all three points.”
BUILDBASE BEES: Emil Sayfutdinov, Kenni Larsen, Ryan Fisher, Przemek Pawlicki, Edward Kennett, Nick Morris, Peter Kildemand.
EASTBOURNE: Bjarne Pedersen, Lewis Bridger, Simon Gustafsson, Cameron Woodward, Joonas Kylmakorpi, Lukas Dryml, Timo Lahti.

PIRATES HEAD FOR BRANDON Poole make their much heralded return to Coventry on Monday (25th July) looking to cement their position at the top of the Sky Sports Elite league table. Currently 5 points clear of nearest rivals King’s Lynn this meeting will eat into one of the Pirates’ matches in hand, but the Dorset side will be keen to keep the rewards coming having picked up points in 8 of their 10 away matches so far. The Bees, headlined by Russian sensation Emil Sayfutdinov, an interested spectator at Sunday’s World U21 Final (a title that he has won twice in his career), will be a tough test for the Pirates and the meeting promises to throw up a number of intriguing contests. Not least those between the Russian Bee and Pirates’ dynamic duo of Chris Holder and Darcy Ward. Poole have Kyle Newman back at reserve after the youngster missed Friday’s trip to Lakeside. Outside of the Elite League Newman has been stringing together some highly impressive scores and was instrumental in Newcastle’s KO cup conquest against Somerset that sets the Geordie side up for a contest against Poole co-promoter Gordon Pairman’s Glasgow side. Monday’s meeting will be broadcast live on Sky Sports television, with a 7.30pm start.
Coventry: Emil Sayfutdinov, Kenni Larsen, Ryan Fisher, Przemek Pawlicki, Edward Kennett, Nick Morris, Travis McGowan.
POOLE: Chris Holder, Dennis Andersson, Davey Watt, Jason Doyle, Darcy Ward, Renat Gafurov, Kyle Newman

Best quote was Tatum saying that heat 1 was a great line up and could be a GP heat in a couple of years: Dennis Andersson & Kenni Larsen if you say so matey BUILDBASE BEES 49 POOLE 42COVENTRY Buildbase Bees collected the all-important three points from Monday’s clash with Elite League leaders Poole – on an extraordinary night of racing. A series of crashes saw the Pirates reduced to four riders, but the efforts of Chris Holder and Davey Watt kept the Bees on their toes before they just managed to maintain a seven-point lead on the night, the crucial margin required. The visitors suffered a number of unconnected incidents, first with Jason Doyle clipping Ryan Fisher’s back wheel in Heat 3 and landing heavily; and then in the next race lively reserve Kyle Newman twisted his knee when he came to grief on the last bend. The biggest blow for Poole came with the withdrawal of Darcy Ward who damaged his hip when he turned too tight on the first bend of Heat 9 and fell, but it was clear that track conditions did not play a part in the accidents – or indeed, a spectacular three-man first-bend pile-up in Heat 10 from which Emil Sayfutdinov, Kenni Larsen and Renat Gafurov thankfully emerged unscathed. Amidst the carnage there was also some top-notch racing, including a fine battle between Sayfutdinov and Holder for second place in Heat 1, with the race impressively won by Kenni Larsen, and a superb 5-1 from Ryan Fisher and Przemek Pawlicki in Heat 5 over Holder. Bees were 35-24 up with five heats to go, but Dennis Andersson passed Edward Kennett in Heat 11 to join Holder for an 8-1 maximum which brought the Pirates right back into play – and for a split second, they had the possibility of a draw on the night when Gafurov made a flying start in Heat 14. The Russian, though, went too wide and dropped to third place before compounding the error by spinning and falling on turn three, which handed Coventry their second 5-0 of the night. That meant the Bees just had to avoid conceding a 5-1 in Heat 15 to make sure of maximum points, and although Kennett was an early retirement, Sayfutdinov managed to split Holder and Watt to get the home side the result they needed. Bees co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “I did feel a little bit for Poole because I’ve been in that situation and it’s not nice, but you have to take your luck when it comes. “I guarantee the keyboard warriors will be saying it was the track, but the meeting co-ordinator has confirmed the track was fine, and I think if you asked the Poole riders they’d say it was just one of those things. “We did go back to some our old ways with a few problems which we do need to sort out quickly, but we’ll certainly take the three points and when you look down our scores there were still some very good ones.” BUILDBASE BEES 49: Emil Sayfutdinov 11, Przemek Pawlicki 9+2, Ryan Fisher 9+1, Kenni Larsen 8, Edward Kennett 6+1, Travis McGowan 4+2, Nick Morris 2. POOLE 42: Chris Holder 15, Davey Watt 12, Darcy Ward 5, Dennis Andersson 4+1, Renat Gafurov 4, Kyle Newman 2+1, Jason Doyle 0.

COVENTRY Buildbase Bees have mixed news on the availability front as they head into the first of a vital series of away matches at Belle Vue on Monday. Both the Buildbase Bees and the Aces are amongst the teams chasing currently fourth-placed Lakeside, who have stolen a march in the play-off race with their recent away results. Bees are able to welcome back Polish talent Przemyslaw Pawlicki, who missed the narrow win over Birmingham due to a knee injury, but Emil Sayfudtinov is unavailable due to the compulsory Russian Pairs event in his homeland. With options for a guest under Sayfutdinov’s assessed 8.00 average at a premium – Wolves meet Lakeside on the same night, and although Peterborough and Birmingham are not racing on Monday, both are or were at Belle Vue within a week of the meeting so their riders are ineligible – Bees will operate the rider replacement facility at No.1, which means each of their other team members are eligible for an extra outing. All of their riders have ridden previously at Kirkmanshulme Lane, Kenni Larsen in the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy last year, and both reserves Nick Morris and Travis McGowan have had success there in the past. McGowan scored a 15-point maximum for former club Swindon almost exactly two years ago, whilst Morris guested for Birmingham in early May and scored paid-nine. Belle Vue have been beaten three times at home this season with improved away form keeping them in the play-off picture, but ex-Bees Chris Harris and Rory Schlein have both been in excellent form of late, whilst Lukasz Jankowski has just re-signed for the Aces and lines up at reserve. Bees co-boss Alun Rossiter said: “We do need to start winning away and we have several important matches to come. It’s going to be a tough one at Belle Vue but we have to be looking to get something. “It’s not ideal to use rider-replacement but it looks like the best option on this occasion, and we do have riders in the team who are capable of scoring well there.” BELLE VUE (Expected): Chris Harris, Craig Cook, Charlie Gjedde, Patrick Hougaard, Rory Schlein, Lukasz Jankowski, Ricky Kling. BUILDBASE BEES: Emil Sayfutdinov R/R, Przemek Pawlicki, Ryan Fisher, Kenni Larsen, Edward Kennett, Nick Morris, Travis McGowan.

Skysports still showing tba I assume that it's this WOLVES V POOLE - MONDAY, PREVIEWPETER Karlsson has vowed to race through the pain barrier for Wolverhampton in their Elite League clash with table-topping Poole at Monmore Green (7.30). The Parrys International Wolves skipper has been out for a week with knee and hand damage after a crash in Sweden but the swelling has reduced enough for him to take his place. But Grand Prix star Freddie Lindgren has been ruled out with a back injury after his horrifying crash in the home win over Lakeside last Monday despite a weekend of intensive physio. His place will be taken by former Wolf Niels Kristian Iversen who now rides for King’s Lynn and is a Monmore specialist. Club owner Chris Van Straaten said: “Freddie was determined to ride but had to admit defeat on Sunday afternoon because he was still getting trouble with his back. “He’d spent a lot of time having physio and made improvement but the meeting has just come a little too soon and he has also pulled out of his Swedish League meeting on Tuesday. ”PK is remarkable. He isn’t 100 per cent fit but he feels ready to come and do a job for the team, he wants to give it his best and he will be determined as always. ”Ludvig Lindgren had a good meeting for Berwick at the weekend too and he is on the team at reserve with Ricky Wells in the main body of the team for what will be a very tough meeting against a super side. It should be a great night of racing.” WOLVERHAMPTON: Niels Kristian Iversen, Ty Proctor, Ricky Wells, Tai Woffinden, Peter Karlsson, Tyson Burmeister, Ludvig Lindgren. POOLE: Chris Holder, Dennis Andersson, Davey Watt, Renat Gafurov, Darcy Ward, Jason Doyle, Christian Hefenbrock.

v BRUMMIES 52 BELLE VUE 43BIRMINGHAM kept up their impressive recent run of form with a comfortable home win over Belle Vue to add three more points to their Elite League total. It was the Brummies’ third consecutive maximum-points haul at Perry Barr, and the final score does not do justice to the way an incident-packed meeting went, because Graham Drury’s side were far superior for much of the night. Belle Vue, for whom Rory Schlein underlined his status as one of the best visiting riders to the venue, carried a long tail and only got to within nine points on the night thanks to an 8-1 in Heat 11 and then a 5-1 in Heat 15 when the match was already won by the Brummies. Skipper Daniel King was in superb form once again, being unbeaten until the last race and twice combining with Ben Barker for 5-1s in what was a powerful combination – the second of them coming against GP star Chris Harris. Darcy Ward proved to be a fine guest for the injured Krzystzof Kasprzak at No.1, and Barker produced one of the moves of the night to squeeze around Charlie Gjedde in Heat 14 which made sure of maximum points for the Brummies. The only man to miss out was Claus Vissing who fell in two of his three rides, and also suffered a penalty for breaking the tapes on a night of multiple re-starts, but there was no doubt the Brummies deserved their win. Drury said: “I’m delighted with that performance, everyone was giving 100 per cent throughout and that’s all I can ask for. “The spirit in the camp is good and things have really come together in the last three weeks. Now we have to see what we can do away from home, and our last three away performances have been good too, so we’re pleased to be finishing the league season strongly.” BIRMINGHAM 52: Daniel King 11+2, Ben Barker 10, Darcy Ward 10, Daniel Nermark 7+1, Ulrich Ostergaard 7+1, Ales Dryml 6+2, Claus Vissing 1. BELLE VUE 43: Rory Schlein 17, Chris Harris 8, Patrick Hougaard 7+2, Charlie Gjedde 7, Lukasz Jankowski 2, Craig Cook 1, Ricky Kling 1. brummieweb

v Belle Vue PreviewPoole Castle Cover Pirates face their final away league match of the regular season on Monday night with a visit to Belle Vue, Manchester, where they have already tasted success this season. The Pirates ran out 46-44 winners back in June but their hero on that occassion, Russian Renat Gafurov, will not be in the side for this second visit. Gafurov has been replaced in the Pirates' latest declared line-up, in favour of Swede Thomas H Jonasson , who will be making his Pirates debut. Gafurov scored paid 14 from reserve on that previous visit, a night when the Pirates were mising Big Guns Darcy Ward and skipper Davey Watt. Jonasson has previous experience around Kirkmanshulme Lane having scored paid 11 from 7 rides when racing there for Swindon last season. The 22 year old will slot into reserve with Jason Doyle moving back into the main body of the team, but the Pirates will be without their other new recruit Mateusz Szczepaniak who is ruled out with a knee injury, sustained on his debut last Wednesday evening. The Poole side draft in Kyle Newman to cover. Poole will come head to head with Australian Rory Schlein who is in a rich vein of form as he demonstrated for the Pirates recently when he ably guested twice in the space of 48 hours last week, as cover for Chris Holder. The Aces ware expected to be operating rider replacement for Patrick Hougaard who was injured last Wednesday in his native Denmark, a crash that forced him to miss their stunning 49-41 win at Coventry last Friday - a result that maintains their hopes of making the play-offs if they can maximise the league points available to them. After Monday night the Aces will have just two away matches left in - one at Wimborne Road on September 5th, the other at Wolverhampton. Currently in 5th spot in the table, two points behind Eastbourne the play-off door is still ajar for them, whilst Poole will strengthen their claim on top spot with just three matches remaining, if they can gain something from this meeting. Teams Belle Vue (from) - C.Harris, R.Schlein, C.Gjedde, Rider Replacement for P.Hougaard, L.Janowski, R.Kling, M.Risager, J.Frampton Poole - C.Holder, D.Andersson, D.Watt, J.Doyle, D.Ward, T.H Jonasson, K.Newman pooleweb

Poole Castle Cover Pirates took another big stride towards securing top spot in the Sky Sports Elite league picking up three more league points with a 46-44 victory, their second of the season in Manchester, against Belle Vue Aces. It was Poole's 5th away league win of the year and incredibly the first time they had collected a win on their travels when fielding both Chris Holder and Darcy Ward! So it was fitting that it was that duo that turned the match in the Pirates direction by wiping out the Aces' four point lead through a heart-stopping 5-1 in heat 13. Whilst Holder was as smooth as silk out front, Ward was riding such a wide line that he continued bouncing off the fence and needed his full wits about him to stay aboard and keep out the interests of Chris Harris. But it wasn't totally about the Holder and Ward show, despite the pair securing victory in heat 15 with a 4-2, split by fellow Australian Rory Schlein. For debutant Thomas H Jonasson racked up a highly creditable paid 13 score from 6 rides with the sort of performance the Pirates needed as cover for the struggling Jason Doyle, still riding with heavy shoulder strapping and an out-of sorts showing by Dennis Andersson. Andersson, who last time out at Kirkmanshulme Lane claimed two racewins, endured a frustrating night as he all too frequently found himself in difficulty around the first turn. The win, and three league points puts the Pirates 12 points clear of King's Lynn but will need no reminding that they finished top of the pile last year ahead of the play-offs but ended up conceding the championship.
Scorers Belle Vue 44 C.Gjedde 12+1 (3,3,1',3,2,R), R.Schlein 10 (1,3,2,2,0,2), C.Cook 9+1 (1',1,1,3,3), C.Harris 7 (2,3,1,1), R.Kling 3+2 (0,0,1,1',1'), L.Jankowski 3 (2,0,1,0) - rider replacment operated for P.Hougaard Poole 46 C.Holder 14 (3,2,3,3,3), T.H. Jonasson 11+1 (3,2'2.0.1',3), D.Ward 11+1 (3,2,3,2',1), D.Watt 8 (2,2,2,2), D.Andersson 1+1 (0,1',F,0), K.Newman 1 (1,0,0), J.Doyle 0 (0,0,0)

Fairly entertaining meeting on a track surface which clearly doesnt get any better.
I see Ward set a new track record last night on how many times you can clout the safety fence in one race, the boy is good but he is going to seriously hurt himself or more likely someone else before long.

Thinkyou are wrong about Ward there, BCD, we saw the same at the Showground a couple of weeks back with Sayfutdinov, all seemed controlled to me, if you watch the GP's, putting your back wheel on the fence seems to be the 'in' thing.
