AT last night’s Elite Meeting a Protest was made to the Referee by the Lakeside Team Manager during the Meeting and another similar one was made by the Coventry Team Manager at the conclusion of the Meeting.
These Protests concerned the validity of Silencers being used during that Meeting.
At the conclusion of the Meeting, 6 Silencers were handed into the custody of a nominated SCB Official, who this morning, in the presence of a representative of both Lakeside and Coventry had these examined by David King, the manufacturer of King Silencers.
One silencer, that belonging to Edward Kennett was found to have been tampered with and therefore used illegally.
The points scored by Mr Kennett (15pts) and those scored by Nick Morris (3pts) when using Mr Kennett’s motorbike in Heat 12 are deducted from the final score.
The Revised score now reads: LAKESIDE 42 – COVENTRY 33
Mr Kennett has been charged with non-compliance of the 2011 Speedway Regulations and a date for a Disciplinary Court Hearing is being arranged.
In accordance with the 2011 Speedway Regulations, Mr Kennett’s SCB Registration is suspended for a period of 7 days as from today.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT Sunday August 07, 2011
COVENTRY Speedway and Edward Kennett accept the findings of the technical examinations of silencers following the Elite League fixture at Lakeside on Saturday.
The Buildbase Bees won the match 48-42, but the result has now been amended to 42-30 in the Hammers’ favour following the withdrawal of points scored by Kennett.
Kennett’s silencer was found not to conform to the regulations and he will now serve a mandatory one-week ban, and attend a Disciplinary Court Hearing, with the Bees permitted to use the rider-replacement facility for the forthcoming away matches at Peterborough (Monday) and King’s Lynn (Wednesday).
All five other silencers which were tested, including those of Ryan Fisher and Przemyslaw Pawlicki for Coventry, were found to be legal and will be returned to the riders.
Following the SCB disciplinary hearing, the club will be taking its own internal action against Edward Kennett if necessary, and we can also confirm that the captaincy will pass to Ryan Fisher with immediate effect.
Coventry Speedway has a long and proud history, and under no circumstances does the club condone cheating of any kind, whether that relates to race fixing or machine tampering.
The club are shocked and disappointed by the actions of their captain, and would like to stress that no member of the Coventry management had any knowledge of Edward Kennett’s silencer tampering.
We would like to re-assure all speedway supporters that the management are as appalled by his actions as any fair-minded supporter would be.
Coventry wish to express sincere apologies to British Speedway, its supporters, and in particular the supporters of Coventry and Lakeside who attended the meeting on Saturday, for this unacceptable misdemeanour.
We would also like to thank the licenced officials at Lakeside for bringing the matter to the referee’s attention, and for dealing with it in a professional manner.

On the face of it "pillock" springs to mind but "was found to have been tampered with" doesn't really tell us to much so let's see what that means first, although being speedway it's no doubt a behind closed doors job and we'll never know

Madsen did the same thing last year but Matt Ford got him off. You might want to revisit your facts. Rigsby may want to remove your post in case either of the above named people read what has been posted! I've seen worse and if every such post was removed then not much would be left on the internet and if anyone has a real problem then as the rules say "PM admin if confused by these rules or you have any other issues but at the end of the day you are responsible for your own actions." If Kennett hasn't admitted anything then couldn't he plead ignorance and say that it was cleared at the start of the meeting? I'd imagine that a soundcheck isn't part of the scrutineering though

Scott Nicholls has said there are plenty who do it in the UK and he has seen them. If you're going to post such claims attributed to other people written in such a way then also provide the detail/source pls (and the BSF or similar isn't good enough in such instances).

Coventry racer Edward Kennett says a member of his racing team tampered with the illegal silencer he was caught using at Lakeside on Saturday without his knowledge.
The Team Great Britain star could face a two-year ban from the sport if a Speedway Control Bureau Disciplinary Court finds him guilty of using an illegal silencer to gain an unfair advantage over his rivals.
Kennett has already been stripped of the 15-point maximum he scored at the Arena-Essex Raceway, while his Bees team mate Nick Morris lost the three points he gained riding Kennett’s machine in race 12. This turned a 48-42 Coventry win into a 42-30 victory for the Hammers.
The former Eastbourne rider is currently serving a seven-day ban, which started on Sunday, and the hearing to decide his fate will take place on Tuesday, August 16.
The 24-year-old released a statement via the Bees’ official website, apologising for the scandal on Monday afternoon.
Kennett claims a member of his pit crew, who has now been sacked, corrupted the silencer in a bid to give him an advantage, but the rider himself says he was unaware the pipe was illegal.
The statement reads: “Having just arrived back from Poland I would like to make the following statement.
“I wish to state my deep regret and offer my sincere apologies to the fans, the management of Coventry Speedway, the sponsors and my team mates.
“On Saturday evening, I was unaware that I was using an illegal silencer.
"It has been brought to my attention that someone within my team had taken it upon themselves to tamper with the silencer without my knowledge, believing their actions would give me an advantage.
“I am extremely sorry to my team mate Nick Morris who suffered as a consequence, having used my bike in heat 12.
“I have taken swift action to resolve this matter and the person in question is no longer in my employment. I would like to thank them for their support and commitment over the years, but I cannot condone cheating. This has been a most unfortunate and upsetting incident.
“I would like to finish by saying that I love speedway and have been proud to represent my country.
“Being part of the Coventry 2010 (Elite League) winning side was one of the highlights of my career thus far and I hope this matter has not jeopardised my future in the sport.”
It has also emerged that the Bees lodged a protest with referee Ronnie Allan about the silencers being used by Lakeside riders Lee Richardson, Piotr Swiderski and Kauko Nieminen. All three were tested by manufacturer David King on Sunday and found to be legal. Coventry riders Ryan Fisher and Przemyslaw Pawlicki also had their pipes checked, and both were cleared.

Former Coventry skipper Edward Kennett has quit the Bees “with immediate effect” as he faces the prospect of a two-year ban from the sport after using an illegal silencer at Lakeside on Saturday night.
The Team Great Britain international was stripped of the 15-point maximum he accrued in the Bees’ 48-42 win at the Arena-Essex Raceway. His Coventry colleague Nick Morris was also docked the three points he scored while riding Kennett’s bike in heat 12.
This resulted in the score being amended to a 42-30 victory for the Hammers and the Coventry fans and management were left fuming with the Sussex-born star.
Speaking in today’s Speedway Star, co-promoter Alun Rossiter confirmed Kennett’s future was up for discussion. But the rider appears to have taken the decision out of their hands by leaving Brandon.
He could still face a lengthy ban and hefty fine when he appears before a Speedway Control Bureau Disciplinary Court on Tuesday.
But the rider says he doesn’t want to cause Coventry anymore pain and released a statement confirming he was leaving the team. "I know that I will be punished on Tuesday and I am prepared to accept whatever that decision is for the good of British speedway." - Edward Kennett
The 24-year-old said: “After the events of the last few days and with my disciplinary hearing coming up, I feel that the least I can do to help repair some of the damage this incident has done to Coventry, my team mates and, above all, the Coventry supporters, is to resign from the club with immediate effect.
“Coventry is in my blood and I would not wish to do any more to harm the club or the supporters that I love. I know that I will be punished on Tuesday and I am prepared to accept whatever that decision is for the good of British speedway.”
Following Kennett’s announcement, Coventry released a statement, thanking their former skipper for stepping aside and allowing them to make team changes ahead of the Elite League play-offs.
Their statement reads: “Coventry Speedway would like to thank Edward Kennett for putting the club first, and for his publicly stated intention to help repair the damage done over the last few days.
“Edward stood by the club during the winter dispute, which we will always be grateful for. And although the events of the weekend were a huge surprise and disappointment, we feel he has now acted in the best interests not only of Coventry, but also of British Speedway in general.
“It is clear that Edward’s heart will always be with Coventry, and his latest move allows the club to look forward and to make necessary changes for the play-off run-in.
“There is no doubt that having to operate the rider replacement facility for a succession of Elite League matches is far from ideal, and the club is currently looking to alleviate that problem.”
Meanwhile, Polish international Krzysztof Kasprzak will race for Birmingham against Peterborough tonight, despite reportedly being caught with two illegal silencers at Vetlanda on Tuesday.
KK, who was representing Vargarna, did not use them in the meeting and raced on legal equipment.
The Wolves have suspended him over the incident, but he is currently not facing any disciplinary action from Swedish governing body SVEMO or Polish federation, the PZM.
Co-promoter Graham Drury said: “I have been touch with all of the governing bodies to establish the facts, and they have all said that Birmingham have no grounds to put any sanction on Krzysztof.
“I understand his Swedish club have now suspended him, but that is their own issue and could be for any reason – it is a different situation compared to if it had come from SVEMO.
“The PZM hold Krzysztof’s licence and they have received no reports from SVEMO that any of their riders have committed any offences.
“I would like to thank the SCB for their help in making thorough investigations and for clarifying the position for us. Krzysztof will ride for us tonight.”

Team Great Britain star Edward Kennett has been handed a six-month worldwide ban from racing, according to his Polish club Leszno.
Kennett faced a Speedway Control Bureau Disciplinary Court on Tuesday afternoon after being caught using an illegal silencer in Coventry’s meeting at Lakeside on August 6.
The outcome of the hearing will be announced at 9am on Wednesday morning. But in an interview with sportowefakty.pl, Bulls president Jozef Dworakowski claims that the FIM has told the club the Sussex-born rider will be unavailable for their Ekstraliga play-off campaign.
He said: "I have been informed by the International Motorcycle Federation that Edward Kennett is suspended for six months. He will therefore be unable to help us in our fight to get into the semi-final of the Ekstraliga play-offs.”
The decision comes as a massive blow to the Bulls who are already without injured stars Damian Balinski and Jurica Pavlic.
His British club Coventry released a statement last Thursday confirming that Kennett had resigned from the team and are set to replace him ahead of the play-off run-in.
The 24-year-old scored a 15-point maximum in the Bees’ 48-42 win at the Arena-Essex Raceway.
But the SCB stripped him of this when his silencer was found to have been tampered with and his team mate Nick Morris also lost the three points he scored riding Kennett’s bike in heat 12. As a result, the score was amended to a 42-30 win for the Hammers.
The scandal has caused widespread anger among fans and riders alike, with the likes of Scott Nicholls and Hans Andersen calling for silencer cheats to face a minimum one-year ban.
But if Kennett’s sentence is confirmed to be six months by the SCB on Wednesday morning, he should be available to start the 2012 season.

SCB COURT HEARING - EDWARD KENNETT
THE Speedway Control Bureau has issued the following statement regarding Edward Kennett.
Mr Edward Kennett appeared before an SCB Court of Enquiry, held at the offices of The Auto Cycle Union in Rugby on Tuesday 16th August to answer charges that he used an illegal Silencer during the Lakeside v Coventry Speedway meeting held on Saturday 6th August 2011.
He pleaded guilty to the offence, but denied any knowledge that the Silencer had in fact been tampered with, claiming that a Mechanic had altered the Silencer without his knowledge.
An examination of the said Silencer had conclusively shown that a row of some 24 holes had been drilled out from 3mm to 6mm.
The Court considered a well presented plea made on Edward’s behalf.
The findings of the Court were that Edward Kennett’s Licence would be suspended for 12 months, 6 months of which would itself be suspended for 12 months, thus effectively suspending Edward for the remainder of this season from all Speedway racing, but making him available for the start of the 2012 Season.
He was also fined £2500 with £700 costs.
Edward has the right to appeal to the ACU Final Tribunal of Appeal.
