Australia Race To Pairs Victory (Posted on March 28, 2014 by: Shaun Reynolds speedway365)
Australia’s Chris Holder and Darcy Ward raced to victory in event 1 of the Speedway Best Pairs competition held in Torun’s Marian Rose Motoarena on Saturday night.
The Aussie duo beat Denmark’s Niels Kristian Iversen and Nicki Pedersen in the final of the meeting to take a maximum ten points for their overall total.
During the meeting, Denmark outscored all six other competing nations in the event proper as they managed to total 37 points in the meeting proper.Poland and Australia competed in the race off whilst Sweden – led by an impressive Antonio Lindback – managed 29 points. Russia totalled 28 points whilst Latvia managed 16 and Germany finishing bottom on 14 points – all of which scored by Martin Smolinski.
The crowd was entertained throughout the night as the racing, as ever, was spectacular. Riders used the banking and superbly prepared track to their advantage managing to pull off overtakes left, right and centre.
The race off saw Poland matched up against Australia. Despite Tomasz Gollob’s dominance continuing – the Pole dropping just one point all night – Holder and Ward managed to fend off a hard chasing Patryk Dudek, who finished fourth, confirming the Aussies place in the final.
The final itself saw Australia dominate from the front. Despite Holder being, arguably, slower than the chasing Pedersen and Iversen, he rode some intelligent lines to earn Australia the win. Australia pick up 10 points whilst Denmark settle for 8. The next round takes place in Landshut, Germany, on May 10th.

The Jack and Sam show - who the feck gave them clowns the gig. Their commentating was cringeworthy.
Disappointing no Brits in it. The stubborn BSPA strike again.
Thought the meeting was more enjoyable that some seem to think.
