Seems owner has had enough. BSPA in talks to allow them to at least see out the season. Think I recall Dick pointing Birmingham out as a likely early casualty of this cack season?
BSPA OFFICIAL STATEMENT (Wednesday June 25, 2014) THE British Speedway Promoters’ Association can confirm tonight’s Poole v Birmingham Elite League meeting WILL go ahead as planned at Wimborne Road. Representatives of the BSPA are currently in dialogue with relevant parties with the sole aim of ensuring the continuation of the sport at Perry Barr Stadium.

I did think they would be the first but I wouldn't be surprised if others are close to it, I just don't think the EL is sustainable at this level. Judging by the crowds or lack of them I am not the only one.

ALAN PHILLIPS STATEMENT (Wednesday June 25, 2014)
THE Company, as stated repeatedly, is not “bust” - but it does have short-term cash flow problems which are minor by comparison.
However, despite my repeated warnings that speedway is not sustainable at Perry Barr on current attendances, little has changed.
In anticipation of this mid-season shortfall, we introduced the Privilege Club and again, had this been favourably subscribed to, we would not be in any deficit now. Sadly, only three members signed up. Further attempts to obtain short-term funding also fell on deaf ears.
Despite the prospects for next season being extremely bright with the new sponsorship deals agreed, I had no choice but to take the view that there was not enough demand for speedway for me to continually keep putting in money to cover the shortfall.
Up to and including this season, over £400,000 has been invested into Birmingham Speedway and we have delivered the most successful period in the club’s history. Sadly, this was not reflected in the attendances.
In the meantime, out of respect for the few hardcore supporters with whom I have a terrific relationship, I am in negotiations with a third party to try and ensure the continuation of Birmingham Speedway.
It is very sad for me but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

British Speedway bosses have vowed to do all they can to ensure Birmingham see out the season – after owner Alan Phillips admitted he’s had enough.
Phillips is refusing to comment on suggestions the club are in dispute with Perry Barr landlords the GRA over rent payment – but the Selco Brummies owe money to riders, other clubs and several suppliers.
Alex Harkess, chairman of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association, said: “As a sport we don’t want to be losing a club like Birmingham and we will be doing everything within our power to ensure the sport survives at Perry Barr Stadium.
“We have been in dialogue with different parties over the last 24 hours to try and ensure the club is salvaged.
“I’m not prepared to go into detail regarding the club’s financial situation as that is confidential.
“The Poole meeting was guaranteed to go ahead because we ensured that would be the case and hopefully something can be put in place very quickly to ensure the club survives.
“As an association, it is our policy to try and keep clubs going rather than closing them down – this certainly applies in this case.”
Phillips, who took charge of Birmingham in November 2011 along with business partner Chris Luty, took sole control last November and brought in his son Charles to help.
But team manager Phil Morris quit after leading the team to the top of the Elite League and this was followed shortly afterwards by a transfer request from skipper Danny King – but he later withdrew it.
And earlier this season vastly experienced co-promoter Graham Drury resigned – claiming he could no longer work with the current regime.
Phillips said: “I cannot confirm or deny anything where the stadium is concerned and the GRA.
“I can say, however, that I personally have had enough, no-one has come forward with support and the BSPA, well, what can I say?
“I feel very badly let down but should have expected it, I’ve been warned enough.”

How very sad if not unexpected. I note the dig at BSPA who as I have remarked before are IMO spivs and wide boys. I am reminded of a comment from a former promoter that they were not capable of running a burger stall. In the case of our own RF they were content to let him inject money into the sport with transfer fees but then cut his legs from under him.
PS
Are BSPA in charge of catering facilities at EOES as that seems to be going downhill.

All sounds very Peterborough tbh:

Very sad to see the Brummies in this situation. Despite being given a winning team last year and a top manager, the Birmingham public don't seem to want to support Elite League Speedway. Surely the best option would be a return to the Premier League which hopefully will prove more sustainable. As many others have said the sport over here needs to change and a re branding/ re marketing exercise seems long overdue. If the sport is to have any long term future they need to get youngsters coming back through the turnstiles and they could make a start by making the presentation a lot more slick.

As has been proved the city do not want speedway really, at least not elite level. Shows how bad it is when a city this size cannot make speedway work.

Offers alone are only half a fix, some shocking PR statements, lack of advertising and not much sponsorship chasing as previous seasons have done as much damage as prices and quality of racing to turn people away.
To be blunt, I'm not sure the Phillips regime presented enough of a welcoming and positive front to supporters and sponsors, all too often biting the hand that feeds it followed by far too many negative statements, has felt like the club has been under a permanent cloud the last 18 months with no sign of it lifting, that whole atmosphere needs to change.

Philips is another prime example of someone coming into the sport and thinking they knew better than the wise people who have been in the sport for years, plus Philips is a complete and utter putz.

Not just Birmingham in doubt but British Speedway in its entirety !!!! Dumbing down is procrastinating procrastination. Putting off till tomorrow what will happen anyway.

Looks like the end for Birmingham. Wednesdays meeting cancelled. Speculation of a lock out by GRA due to non payment of rent. The serial saviour of Speedway Tony Mole allegedly not wishing to get involved. Thin end of the wedge for British Speedway I fear.
On a wider note it is beyond me how promoters owing money in all directions including riders wages have the front to turn up week after week. Similarly I find it difficult to understand riders turning up when they have not been paid.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: BIRMINGHAM SPEEDWAY (BSPA Friday July 04, 2014)
THE British Speedway Promoters’ Association can confirm the annulment of Birmingham Brummies Ltd, the Birmingham Speedway promotion.
This is a decision made in accordance with the speedway regulations.
However, the BSPA would also like to stress great efforts will continue to be made to see the continuation of the sport at Perry Barr Stadium.
Chairman Alex Harkess said: “The Speedway Control Bureau, at the recommendation of the BSPA, has informed the current Birmingham management of the decision to annul.
“However, there are great efforts being made on a private and confidential basis to give the club every chance of concluding the season.”

I just listened to a BBC WM radio interview with Alan and Charles Phillips and Tony Mole and further into the programme with Graham Drury (yeah I was bored) the link is on the BSF and I may have been doing Phillips a dis-service. He is either completely mad, being stitched up by the BSPA, suffering from dementia or a combination of all three.

Sad to hear that it's now official that the Brummies have folded. I don't expect them to be the last club to go to the wall before the end of the season/year.

PHILLIPS two page interview in this weeks star was interesting as well. Why, what were the main points? He was the best promoter Birmingham have ever had,all businesses are run on credit, he is an honest guy and is being unfairly castigated, could have turned things round if given more time. ALSO QUITE CONVINCED THE WORLD IS SQUARE

BIRMINGHAM Brummies are set to rise from the ashes next season – with an application to enter the National League.
Former club owner Tony Mole has confirmed he will be entering the Brummies – with their traditional yellow and red race jacket colours – in the third tier of the sport as a starting point to rebuild the club, and they will be joined at Perry Barr by reigning champions Cradley (see Speedway 2).
Mole said: “This is very much the first stage in a rebuilding process and if the team is a success and we get the necessary support from fans then I will be looking to take the club up into a higher level.
“I am pleased to see Cradley Heath survive and they will be the team everyone wants to beat next season. They have won the title for the last two seasons and will be going for the hat-trick, but I have two main ambitions myself for 2015 – win the league and beat Cradley!
“We will be building a competitive team and I have a team manager in mind. More announcements will be made in due course, including our opening night details.”
