KING’S Lynn have called upon Scott Nicholls to guest for the injured Niels-Kristian Iversen in the first leg of their Elite League play-off semi-final against Poole.
The Pirates edged out the Stars at the top of the table on points difference and elected to travel to the Norfolk Arena for Monday’s encounter, with the visitors bringing in Danny King and Craig Cook to replace Darcy Ward (suspended) and Josh Grajczonek (injured).
Kenneth Bjerre is set to return for King’s Lynn, who led the regular league competition for much of the campaign.
COVENTRY and Swindon meet at Brandon on Monday in the first leg of their Elite League play-off semi-final tie.
The Bees finished nine points ahead of the Robins in the regular table but the visitors go into the play-offs at full strength and are listed as title favourites by many observers.
Kyle Howarth returns for Coventry, who bring in Aaron Summers to guest for the injured Ben Barker.

COVENTRY number one Hans Andersen was happy to come away with a lead from last night’s play-off semi-final first leg, but was frustrated the Brandon track produced ‘boring’ racing. The Bees won 49-41 at Brandon, giving them an eight-point start at Blunsdon next Monday, on a night where there was only one real racing line which made it hard to pass. While a number of Bees did manage to battle through Robins riders, Andersen was frustrated with the Brandon circuit which he says has given them no home advantage all year.“Obviously we would have liked a bigger lead, but at the end of the day a lead is a lead,” he said. “It will be good to have a better track to race on, it wasn’t a racer’s track tonight and it was boring, follow the leader stuff.“Whoever popped out and rode the wall of death was going to win the race, simple. There’s no point having a track that’s wide and only using a 10th of it.“People don’t seem to listen, if we ask for one thing they just do their own thing. “We haven’t had any home advantage at all this season and I think we should be pleased to have made the play-offs.” swindonlinksport 29/9/14

Loved his quote in the star this week about the GP " I've never had a wildcard and I think I deserve one" I don't and it appears my view is shared by others.

It's hard to feel sorry for Bjerre, isn't it? As for the play off situation, I can't help thinking the sport dies just a little bit more every season, although I must admit, making a big hole appear in your track to get a meeting called off because half your team can't make it, is pretty original, it's right up there with Buster's electric cable slicing of a few seasons ago.

Just when you thought the sport couldn't get any worse, it does it again, what a complete farce live to the nation.

RESULT: COVENTRY 34 POOLE 37 (Friday - 17th October 2014)
The Elite League Play-off Grand Final 1st leg was abandoned due to rain after 12 heats at Coventry with Poole leading 37 points to 34 and with the result standing it means the Pirates will have a 3 point lead going into Monday night's second and concluding leg.
With the meeting starting in the dry, rain began to fall midway through the meeting just as the Pirates were able to edge into the lead afte Coventry opened with a 4-2 advantage.
Poole were able to contain the Bees with Kyle Newman winning heat 2 in style and then Przemyslaw Pawlicki able to get the better of Ben Barker, returning from a lengthy lay-off, for a valuable heat sharing point in race 3. Guest Danny King did all the work from the tapes in heat 4 and with Newman in close tough the Pirates looked as though they might turn the deficit around but Kenneth Hansen had other ideas, closed down and passed Newman as the scores levelled at 12 a piece.
Although the first 5-1 of the night went the way of the Bees through Andersen and Harris in heat 5 the Pirates instantly hit back through Janowski and Pawlicki in the 6th heat. Controversy reigned in heat 7 when Milik went down whilst chasing James Sarjeant and on video playback evidence referee Peter Clarke ruled that there had been contact made by Sarjeant moving into the chasing Czech and subsequently disqualified the Bees' rider. The Pirates though failed to take full advantage as Williamson fell in the re-run and Howarth held off the interests of Milik for a 3-2 heat score and a lead of one point.
An excellent ride by Pawlicki to seize on a Hansen error and a battling gutsy ride by Bees' Barker to outwit his former Birmingham team-mate Danny King for a point retained that slender advantage for the hosts and when Jason Garritty passed Kyle Newman in a twice re-run heat 9 the Bees looked ready to romp away.
A third to first Pawlicki venture aided by a Janowski third place reeled the Bees back in and then in worsening conditions Milik nipped out to win heat 10 at a canter with Batchelor contributing well in third place. Now leading by one point themselves the Pirates saw Newman take the win in heat 12 and King ride a determined effort to get by and hold off Garritty thus establishing a three point lead as the meeting stewards then announced the abandonment of the meeting due to track conditions.

Horton had a result last night didn't he? Charged £20 per head (Adult admission) and then only had 12 Heats to pay out on. Must have thought Xmas and his birthday had come all at once!! Nevermind winning the thing it doesn't get much better than that surely?

Must be the first final where I wanted neither team to win. Must have been the first that I wanted Poole to win the title. Couldn't be happier that the supremo ended up with nothing (well apart from the cash from the play-offs' gates that is) ELITE LEAGUE GRAND FINAL 2nd legPOOLE 53: Maciej Janowski 14+1, Kyle Newman 11+2, Przemyslaw Pawlicki 8+3, Vaclav Milik 8, Troy Batchelor 6, Nick Morris 5, Benji Compton 1+1. I liked the way they tried to work out how Poole were successful each season and decided that it was the promoter and team manager discussing which riders they would like to sign for the club and indeed also identifying which riders would like to ride to the club? If that's how it's done then I think I can spot the flaw in Panthers team building over the past 7 years? Added to that of course, Poole don't fanny about during the season when it's clearly not working; unlike Panthers who think form will return until such time as the matches in hand have gone and mathematically we're stuffed. It's at that point that reality and hindsight kicks in!

Good meeting considering track conditions. Both teams going for it. Wouldn't mind a bit of that on a regular basis, without the guests of course.
No sign of Supremo?
