Danish star Nicki Pedersen believes the sport’s biggest stars should not have been sweating over Polish Ekstraliga contracts for 2015 and said “they are worth the money you pay them.”
The triple world champion has been in Leszno with his club, meeting fans and building excitement for next year as the Bulls bid to charge their way to gold after winning silver medals this season.
Pedersen was fortunate enough to be on a two-year contract, while some of his FIM Speedway Grand Prix rivals were forced into intense negotiations to secure a club, with some playing two riders off against each other to force the man they wanted to accept lower wages.
World champion Greg Hancock ended his two-month battle to secure a team after newly-promoted Rzeszow snapped him up this week.
Pedersen is delighted he didn’t have to worry about his future and believes riders of his and Hancock’s standing are worth the wages that put them among the sport’s top earners.
He said: “Some riders have been left in deep trouble with some of the offers they’re receiving.
“I always say there are eight or 10 top riders and they are worth the money you pay them.
“They shouldn’t be in a battle where they might not have a team place and they shouldn’t be getting offered stupid, poor money. They are worth their money. I’m happy I had a two-year contract in place and I’m very happy with staying at Leszno.”
Pedersen will not be changing clubs for 2015, as he sticks with Leszno, Dackarna in Sweden and Danish champions Holsted.
He said: “I look forward to riding at Leszno again. I’ve been there for one year and I’m glad I can continue for another one. It’s also great to be back with Dackarna and Holsted and I’m looking forward to another good season with my clubs.”
