I thought that he'd retired Tai Woffinden had a very lucky escape in Torun tonight after being involved in a horrifying crash when his frame appeared to snap in two. The Wroclaw star, who scored 11 points prior to heat 15, was rag-dolled into the Marian Rose Motoarena airbag. The rear end of the machine thumped into the fence, with the front clearing the safety barrier and the neutral zone, before landing and breaking two – fortunately unoccupied – seats in the stands. An ambulance came on to the track, but Woffinden showed his trademark steel, dusting himself off to walk back to the pits with bemused and relieved team mates and management alongside him. Woffinden’s spill allowed Torun to secure a share of the spoils as Chris Holder inflicted Michael Jepsen Jensen’s first loss of the night, while Jason Doyle joined him on a 4-2 to claim a 45-45 draw. But Wroclaw’s disappointment at missing out on victory was insignificant compared their relief at seeing Woffinden return to the pits in one piece, which was more than could be said for his bike. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Surely there should be some sort of investigation?
