Horsens winner Peter Kildemand and Polish international Bartosz Zmarzlik have a golden opportunity to secure FIM Speedway Grand Prix berths for 2016 after being handed wild cards for the GP Challenge at Rybnik on September 5.

Kildemand missed out on a place in the line-up after crashing out of his semi-final in Riga in June, while Zmarzlik fell short in the Polish Golden Helmet Final – the meeting used to decide his country’s entrants for the international qualifiers.

But Kildemand has certainly proved his SGP credentials. He triumphed in Saturday’s Kjærgaard Danish SGP and also bagged third place at the Adrian Flux British SGP in Cardiff on July 4.

Zmarzlik is also an SGP winner, having triumphed on home shale at the Gorzow SGP last summer. He also made his Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup debut for Poland as they claimed bronze at Vojens in June.

Both men will be among the favourites for qualification along with Sweden’s Antonio Lindback, Polish brothers Przemyslaw and Piotr Pawlicki and Chris Harris, the sole full-time SGP rider in the meeting.

It looks like the end for Harris? Can't see him putting in 5 consistent rides in that quality? He wins one heat at this level these days and counts that as a good night. Nobody can take his Cardiff win away from him though!

Heat 1: Pawlicki from the gate but under pressure from Bogdanovs throughout the entire race.
Heat 2: Similar to heat 1 as a Pawlicki makes the gate. Kildemand piled the pressure on throughout.
Heat 3: Karpov and Gomolski gate together but it's Karpov who emerges in front coming off bend 2.
Heat 4: Zmarzlik from the gate. Harris passed Lindgren on lap 1.
Heat 5: Milik gates but is under pressure from Zmarzlik. Covatti passes Lindback on the opening lap.
Heat 6: Stopped. Kildemand and Pz Pawlicki tangle on the first bend and both come down. Both are up and OK. Re-Run with all 4 back.
Heat 6 Re-Run: Lindgren from the gate. Pawlicki got past Madsen on the 2nd lap. Lindgren wins by some distance.
Heat 7: Pawlicki gates, goes and wins with ease.
Heat 8: Poor start costs Gomolski. Tight first bend between the other three sees Harris emerge in front coming off bend 2.
Heat 9: Stopped. Harris demmed to have jumped the start. All 4 Back.
Heat 9 Re-Run: Harris and Kildemand gate but Kildemand eases ahead off bend 2. Milik passes Harris at the end of lap 1. On the final lap Karpov passes Harris but Harris quickly re-passes Karpov to claim back third place.
Heat 10: Gomolski from the gate. Covatti manages to get past Pawlicki on lap 2 but is re-passed on lap 4.
Heat 11: Lindgren from the gate. Lindback trails in a distant last.
Heat 12: Zmarzlik from the gate. Madsen passed Pawlicki on lap 2. Pawlicki close to Madsen for the remainder of the race but just can't make the pass. Bogdanovs retired on lap 2.
Heat 13: Pawlicki gated but was passed by Milik on the first bend. Pawlicki had re-passed Milik coming off bend 2.
Heat 14: Karpov retired whilst at the back.
Heat 15: Covatti from the gate. Harris attacked Nilsson and finally managed to make the pass.
Heat 16: Two races in one. Lindback and Kildemand battling hard upfront whilst the two Latvians enjoyed a good battle at the back.
Heat 17: Good battle between Madsen and Milik. Puodzuks retired when last.
Heat 18: Pz Pawlicki on Harris back wheel for the whole 4 laps.
Heat 19: Nilsson gates but is passed by Kildemand coming off bend 2.
Heat 20: Lindgren from the gate. Bogdanovs retired on lap 4.
2nd Place Run Off: Pi Pawlicki takes the inside with Harris on the outside.

Polish shooting stars Bartosz Zmarzlik and Piotr Pawlicki are on their way to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix big time, while Chris Harris retained his SGP spot at the GP Challenge in Rybnik on Saturday night.

FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship leader Zmarzlik may be just 20 years old, but he showed composure well beyond his age to top the rostrum on 12 points.

Current World Under-21 champion Pawlicki finished second, beating Harris in a run-off after they tied on 11 points.

SGP regular Harris extended his World Championship career in spectacular style, storming under Przemyslaw Pawlicki, pipping him to victory in heat 18 by half a bike – a result that denied the Pole the chance to join his younger brother in the series as he missed out on 10.

There was also heartbreak for Danish ace Peter Kildemand, Czech hotshot Vaclav Milik and Sweden’s former SGP star Freddie Lindgren, who all fell just short on 10.

But the night belonged to Zmarzlik and he can’t wait to live his boyhood dream as he becomes a full-time SGP star for 2016

He said: “When I was a child and did junior speedway, I always dreamed of riding in the Speedway GP series. Today that dream became possible and I am so happy to be in the GP.”

Piotr Pawlicki was also elated to make it through one of world speedway’s most cutthroat meetings to take his place in the SGP elite alongside another of Poland’s talented young guns.

He said: “I’m very happy. I came here with big concentration on every heat. This meeting is very hard because every rider had good speed on the track and good bikes and engines.

“I want to say congratulations to Bartosz Zmarzlik. He’s a very young rider like me and we are both coming into the SGP series next year. We’ve both had a good season. I’m very happy.”

Harris made his name on the world stage with his sensational last-bend pass on Greg Hancock to win the 2007 British SGP in Cardiff. And he was proud of another monumental last turn to save his World Championship status.

He said: “That’s probably one of the best last bends I’ve had in my career, bar Cardiff 2007.

“I knew I had good speed towards the end of the night. We changed a lot on the bike. The GTR engine is working well. We’re getting good speed from it. To win by half a bike was enough!”
