Danish racer Peter Kildemand is determined to maintain his incredible SGP final strike rate in Stockholm as he closes on the FIM Speedway World Championship’s top eight.
Kildemand lines up in the TEGERA® Stockholm SGP at the Friends Arena this Saturday having reached five of a possible seven finals since making his series debut as Copenhagen wild card in June 2014.
The Swindon star is now 10th in the standings on 59 points – putting him 13 short of Maciej Janowski, who occupies the eighth and final automatic qualifying place for the 2016 World Championship.
Having fallen a point short of qualification at the GP Challenge in Rybnik on September 5, reaching the top eight is the only guaranteed way of Kildemand securing a full-time place in the series for next season.
So he’s determined to close the gap with three rounds to race, starting in the Swedish capital.
Asked about his remarkable run of finals, He said: “That’s what you really want to do in speedway. You want to make the finals and that’s a pretty good statistic really. I just need to push on and keep going.
“I’m closer to the top eight now than I was before Krsko. I can only do my best and hopefully I can make the top eight. If not, this is a good shop window for me to show what I can do.”
Another impressive Kildemand statistic is the fact he has never failed to reach an SGP final on a temporary track. With two left this year in Stockholm and Melbourne, it’s a record he’d love to retain at least until the end of the season.
He said: “It’s going to be tough to keep it going, but I can only do my best and hopefully I will be alright.”
After finishing third in Krsko on September 12, Kildemand was congratulated by meeting winner Greg Hancock, and the American insisted his Rzeszow team mate has a “big future.” It’s a compliment the Dane was delighted with.
He said: “I have been riding with him in Poland this year and he’s so experienced. If a guy like him says that, you’re going to be pleased with it. It’s great to hear.”
