Swedish champion Antonio Lindback insists he’s up for the challenge as the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series gets “more and more professional”.
The Rio Rocket hopes to make an explosive impact on the World Championship after being handed a wild card for the 2016 series.
The SGP game has never been tougher as riders work harder than ever to ensure both man and machine are at their absolute best.
Lindback isn’t short on talent, but he knows that will only carry him so far. So he’s ready to make sacrifices and put in the hard graft needed on and off the track to make himself a force next year.
He said: “Speedway has started to get more and more professional. Everybody is pushing the limit so much, much more. You need to follow everybody if you want to get to the top.
“Sometimes you want to go out and party, but if you want to be the best guy in the world, you need to step away. Instead of going out and partying, you need to have a good practice.
"It’s this kind of thing that you need to do to get to the top and be one of the top, top guys.
“I love it. You see how hard the other guys push each other and, for me, it’s easier to push myself to become even better.”
Despite winning his first Swedish title and enjoying a sublime league season with Indianerna, Masarna and Daugavpils, Lindback admits he never took his wild card selection for granted, and knew he had to really prove himself to get the nod ahead of the sport’s young guns.
The 30-year-old said: “It’s very hard because there are lots of good, young riders coming up.
“Even if I think I’m still a young rider, I’m not, so it’s a little bit tougher for me and I needed to show something really extra to get the wild card.
“But I did a good job this year and had some good scores. I’m glad everybody saw it. It was really nice to win the Swedish title. The whole year was really good. I had a couple of meetings where I was a bit down, but everybody has meetings that are not that good. I just stayed up there and did a good job.”
