BSPA Vice Chairman Rob Godfrey hopes the revamped Premier League Fours Spectacular Weekend can become a flagship event on the British speedway calendar.
The reformed competition will feature 72 heats spread across Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 involving all 13 Premier League clubs at the East of England Showground.
With an odd number of clubs, the difficult decision has been taken to seed host club Peterborough directly to the final this year, although the plan from next year onwards is to award the previous winners defending Champions with that place.
Ticket prices have been set at £20 per day individually or £30 for a two-day pass, with under 12s free and kids over 12 £7.50 per day or £10 for both days.
Camping, which can be booked via Peterborough Speedway for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will cost £10 per night although hook-ups for a motorhome or caravan will cost extra.
A bumper Saturday night of entertainment will also cost £5, but Godfrey hopes their competitive pricing structure will see the event become a huge part of the speedway season.
“We’ve put together a pricing structure which we believe provides great value, and although we are relying on lots of people coming we certainly hope they will turn out in numbers,” Godfrey said.
“We’ve tried to price it in a way to encourage people to come for the weekend so they’ll get better value for money, and Peterborough will be releasing a press release with more details on how to sort out camping.
“We know it’s a gamble, but we very much believe it’s worth it because it’s an attractive event and we are going to put 100% into it.
“We are expecting every single Premier League promoter to have an input, and I know the Peterborough promotion are certainly getting behind it fully and coming up with new ideas.
“The East of England Showground have been very helpful with us, it’s probably the only venue in the country where we could do this sort of thing and we are delighted to have their support.
“Collectively I believe we can make this and absolutely brilliant event in the first year, and following on from that we can improve on any mistakes we make to ensure it gets bigger and better as the years go on.
“It’s a starting point for us. It includes every single point, it’s unique to British speedway at this time and we certainly feel it has the potential to be a fantastic event.”

odds against I'd say.
Sunday's Speedway (especially these type of events) Law states "the meeting expands so as to fill the time available for its completion"
6 hours of roving mic waffle, not the best way to spend a Sunday.

Every year after the event I say never again but I always end up going the next year. I have no confidence in the Panther's four and this year I am definitely leaving it to the Pokemon hunters.

Well reading the feedback I thought that the place was packed whereas the pictures for turn 1 are not particularly any better than a league match (I appreciate that some people may have prefered the heat & humidity outside of the stand) Peterborough Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone declared the biggest-ever Premier League Fours extravaganza a huge success - even though his own team failed to provide a silver lining. The city outfit were seeded straight into yesterday’s final which brought the curtain down on a two-day feast of action at the East of England Showground. Panthers’ quartet of Ulrich Ostergaard, Craig Cook, Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen and Tom Perry took to the track with high hopes of lifting this crown for the first time since 1998 and securing a first team trophy of any sort since 2007 - and they were one of three teams who went into the last race still with a chance of glory. Panthers sat two points behind Plymouth and Workington, but there was no fairytale finish as skipper Ostergaard dropped to the rear after making the fastest start. Instead it was Plymouth celebrating as young Aussie ace Brady Kurtz blazed clear to secure victory for a club which briefly went out of business on the eve of the 2016 season. Showground specialist Kenneth Hansen of Workington, so often a star guest for Panthers, gave chase, but he lost too much ground when having to suffer behind a toiling Ostergaard for a half-a-lap. Plymouth tallied 30 points with Workington on 29, Panthers on 25 and Berwick a distant last with just 12. “It would have been the perfect finish if we could have won the trophy,” admitted Rathbone. “But it wasn’t to be in the end. “I thought it might be our day because we had the lead in the first half of the final, but speedway is the real winner. “The whole event was a fantastic success and it gives us something to build on for the future.”Rathbone refused to be drawn on attendance figures. He was only willing to describe the turnout as ‘good’.It was estimated there were around 2,500 fans present on Sunday - a higher number than the previous day in which they event had kicked off with three Fours semi-finals across 36 heats. There was also an 18-man, 21-heat individual meeting to start the Sunday action with plenty of exciting racing despite a quite befuddling format. That was eventually won by Scunthorpe rider Ryan Douglas in a re-run final after Glasgow’s Richie Worrall had been excluded for knocking off his twin brother, Steve, of Newcastle. Steve Worrall took second when the race was completed at the second attempt with former Panthers rider Ben Barker also on the podium in third. The most bizarre moment arrived after final qualifying heat when Redcar duo Lasse Bjerre and Jonas B. Andersen had to be pulled apart before they could come to blows! British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) vice-chairman, Rob Godfrey, said: “Huge credit has to go to the Peterborough promotion and track staff for what they have done with an event that desperately needed a boost.peterboroughtoday.co.uk
