After seeing an improvement and immediate drop of in 2013/14 followed by a mild recovery last year on the back of enthusiasm and relief, we appear to be hitting the buffers a bit, not helped by lack of build up this winter, cold weather and not very good overall entertainment package. With 4 & 500s mentioned on the BSF it would seem that visits from Eastbourne and Birmingham may not be too far off although I wouldn't see us surviving another drop in status.
Things may pick up when the weather does but they are worrying numbers.
700 was Horton's break even, allegedly, so we must need something like that whereas I seem to recall Frost wanting 1500 to 2000.

The League Cup is really an excuse to dump averages for many clubs. Many clubs seem to be dumping fans as well (us included according to the quoted numbers) so that's a bit of a gamble, especially for Scunthorpe. hagar wrote:On the subject of numbers I was flicking through a 1971 Champions Book of Speedway I rediscovered the other day and noticed a reference to Peterborough's opening meeting at Alwalton where it said that the first night crowd of 3200 was disappointing - although I have never counted the numbers attending these days - does anyone know what the attendance is usually?

Certainly the crowds look worryingly low to me.

Certainly the crowds look worryingly low to me. Great track (when properly prepared), great stadium (when the electrics work and we're allowed to use it) but the product and presentation have gone backwards over 3 years, so will the slide continue or will someone with vision, enthusiasm and the finance to survive at the EoES and take us back into the world of shark infested custard appear out of the ether? My money is unfortunately on the slide, with survival at that level being the main objective Early in the season to be talking like that but my one meeting this season didn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm, as difficult as that is to do any time

To be fair champs is certainly likely to be right for some clubs and to be fair it's not always the smaller competitions either. Being brutally honest I would almost certainly rule out the Panthers as a suspect because Ged wants to win every match home and away but its naive to think it doesn't go on. On the subject of crowds I would estimate we average around the 900 mark but of course that can fluctuate immensely due to weather, time of year and how well we are doing. Scunthorpe's crowd Sunday was I was reliably told around 450 but if course Rob Godfrey owns the stadium and has the takings from concessions, car park and bar etc.

Given that these days we're as low profile as the ice hockey mob, I thought that this was a bit of an eye opener A cup cracker - shame about the crowdIt was a case of good performance, great game, stunning clincher but terrible turnout as Peterborough Phantoms triumphed in the opening leg of their English Premier League Cup semi-final (January 18 2017). Phantoms triumphed – it’s just a shame more people weren’t there to witness it. So many empty seats for a game of such significance will no doubt have been a major disappointment for club chiefs. full text at peterboroughtoday/phantoms/match-report-a-cup-cracker-shame-about-the-crowd 19/1/17
