PETERBOROUGH promoter Ged Rathbone insists he won’t rush into the appointment of a new team manager.
The ‘T Balfe Construction’ Panthers are currently without a boss after Carl Johnson stepped down a couple of weeks ago.
Dale Allitt has overseen the club’s last four meetings, but he has commitments as a promoter at King’s Lynn.
Rathbone said: “We have given the team manager situation a lot of thought and will continue to do so.
“It is essential we arrive at the correct decision and we are throwing a few names around between ourselves.
“I would love Dale to stay on, but we have to appreciate the big commitments he already has at King’s Lynn.
“Their promoter, Buster Chapman, kindly agreed to allow Dale to look after our last four meetings. We would have to discuss any sort of possible extension to that with him.”
Rathbone is preparing to step in as team boss for the club’s trip to Glasgow on Sunday himself.
And he believes Peterborough are capable of challenging for a positive result in Scotland as they bid to bounce back from the disappointment of a heavy home defeat at the hands of Somerset last Sunday.
Rathbone added: “I’ll step in as team manager at Glasgow in the meantime if necessary and I feel it is a track where we could potentially pick up a result.
“Redcar pushed them pretty hard last Sunday and I don’t think a win is beyond us if we perform to our potential on the day.”

So what exactly does a team manager do? Manage the Team! A bit like Ranieri Not really. Panthers team managers never tinker until it's too late (potless since 2006 )

The mechanics of the job is very simple, however there is more to it than that as we saw when Ryan Sullivan briefly took over.

Sullivan had been there, done it and got the t-shirt, as well the Australian mentality and tact - Frost was lucky to find him, albeit too late to save our season, but in management terms Sullivan was the exception to the rule.

Sullivan surprised a lot of people by actually being quite good at the role, unfortunately it's clear he was being paid to do the role and from what I know not many if any are paid to do the job at PL level. From Carl Johnson's comments it was clear it was costing him a lot in money and time and to be fair it's something that will always come into the equation with things as they are. Ged,s made it abundantly clear the role is voluntary. Bearing in mind Ged will likely go to every match this year it makes a lot of sense to see how he gets on with the job himself.

New team manager Jason Attwood insists it is a must that Panthers make the Premier League play-offs.
The former Leicester and Belle Vue chief has been named as the permanent successor to Carl Johnson, who delivered a surprise resignation only weeks into the new season.
Attwood is set to take charge of Panthers for the first time on Friday night (May 6) when they travel to Plymouth, providing the move receives the necessary clearance from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA).
His first home meeting in the hot-seat will be a clash against Sheffield on Sunday (5pm) - and he is relishing the challenge that lies ahead after being given the nod by promoter Ged Rathbone.
Attwood said: “When I heard about Carl resigning, I got in touch with Ged. I’ve known him since my time at Belle Vue when he was working with Ulrich Ostergaard.
“I put my name in the hat and I’m delighted to have been given the chance to manage Peterborough.
“In my fairly short time in speedway management, I’ve had the chance to work at my hometown club Leicester, my boyhood club Belle Vue, and now another great club in Peterborough.
“I’ve had a year away from the sport since I left Belle Vue and I’m feeling refreshed and ready to go again.
“I’ve come into this role to make a difference. Myself and the promotion have the same philosophy as we’re all in this sport to win things.
“A club of Peterborough’s size simply has to be in the play-offs and we need to make that happen.”
Rathbone believes Attwood is the right man to take Panthers forward.
He said: “Jason is a very bubbly and enthusiastic guy, and he has been very keen to become part of the Panthers set-up for some time.
“He got in touch with us ahead of last season, but we opted to stick with Carl.
“Jason was also the first person to make contact after Carl decided to stand down recently and hopefully his arrival will give us the bit of stability we need after a couple of disappointing results lately.”
