I see the BSF Coventry 2017 thread has somehow morphed into interval chat. I don't see any point for the interval these day. There are plenty of natural breaks (more than there ever was before), and stopping a meeting just as it's warming up after 10 mins of real action, for 5 mins more (plus ages sorting out the usually obvious in heat 15), is all rather pointless. It just needs some organisation and communication. Rodders said - "They manage not to have an interval when it suits their purpose. Did not need an interval until end of meeting at heat 13 when they had second halves." See you're getting a bit of a kicking Rodders but it's a good point. 13 heats + 7 or so more culminating in the rider of the night final shows how hoodwinked some people these days

But with decent organisation and communication they could have 3 overpriced intervals (burgers and the like are more often than not overpriced anywhere) during heats' 4, 8 and 12s tractor racing. If any track staff need a widdle then it could be agreed that they can go during those breaks or during the 15 mins it takes to sort out the simplest task, ie heat 15! I don't think I was the only one contributing about the interval, I am not totally against and interval rather it is not always required certainly on freezing cold days and when there have been considerable delays anyway. Unfortunately there are always in built delays especially with the growing use of rider replacement. The delay between heats 14 and 15 I find particularly annoying. The argument in favour of an interval seems to revolve on the track staff requiring urgent use of the toilet facilities.
My tongue in cheek comment regarding the erection of portaloos on the centre green seems to have been taken seriously by some on BSF but then am I really surprised?

To be fair a reasonable 10-15 mins after heat 10 isn't too much providing the meeting is conducted at a brisk pace by the referee, meetings should be all done and dusted by 9.15 at the latest with a 7.30 start and that includes the interval. 1.5 hours for 15 heats is easily achievable for 95% of matches. Coventry used to be the place I hated for time wasting they seemed to take an absolute age every time, 3 hours was the norm there and they touched 3.5 on a few occasions as well.
