PETERBOROUGH have carried out a major makeover of the East of England Showground.
The club’s main sponsors T Balfe Construction provided the manpower and machinery as the track underwent extensive work last week.
A five-day project saw close to 150 tonnes of shale removed to allow levelling work to be carried out on the base of the super-fast circuit, with a slight camber being added through the corners.
And promoter Ged Rathbone believes the changes will lead to even better racing at one of the best tracks in the country.
He said: “I’m told it is more than a decade since this sort of work last took place. It was a big job and one that was very much needed.
“Our brilliant sponsors, T Balfe Construction, and their sister company, Richmond Plant Hire, have provided the expertise and the equipment.
“They have done a complete sweep of the track, levelling out the base and creating a camber.
“The end result will be a better surface for riders and even greater entertainment for fans.
“It is a second terrific gesture by David Balfe (the managing director of T Balfe Construction) this winter after he agreed to pay his two-year sponsorship deal up front to allow us to complete the purchase of track equipment following my takeover.
“I can’t thank him enough for his contribution since first coming on board as our main sponsor ahead of last season.”
Panthers’ track team will now be responsible for completing the revamp by working on the top surface of the track on a daily basis in readiness for the new campaign.
