17/06/2017 Terenzano ITA FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX WC - SEMI-FINAL 2 Great Britain skipper Craig Cook is five good rides away from the FIM Speedway Grand Prix elite after a sensational victory in tonight’s SGP qualifying semi-final in Terenzano. b0252 The Cumbrian, who doubles up between Belle Vue and Workington in the British leagues, saw off a host of riders with SGP, Polish Ekstraliga and Swedish Elitserien experience to triumph on 13 points and book his place at the GP Challenge in Togliatti on August 19. With the continuing decline in the standard of British Speedway and the fact that we have not got a single rider anywhere near Grand Prix level, I become less and less interested.

With the continuing decline in the standard of British Speedway and the fact that we have not got a single rider anywhere near Grand Prix level, I become less and less interested. I'm not totally disinterested yet but I'm getting there. As I said of Cardiff "The SGP is becoming more and more detached from Britsh Speedway as we lose any resemblance to that quality of rider. Brits detached in 4th place (or wetting ourselves for the occasional 2nd place) is where we are and it's getting worse."The series is rapidly turning into the Polish Open Championship.

I must be honest I still love the GP,S It's honest racing with everyone going for it and what's not to enjoy watching the best in the world going hammer and tongs at each other. The rules are simple and fairly straightforward so everyone can follow it and it attract crowds to Cardiff our BSPA can only dream about. As you say it's full of poles and unfortunately apart from Pawlicki it's unlikely to change much for the foreseeable.

GP's are great, every point could be vital, therefore they go for it. The GP meetings briefly represent Speedway as a professional showcase event. The BSPA had the GP's and Sky to really promote the sport but screwed it up as a result of self agenda.

Polish star Przemyslaw Pawlicki completed his quest to reach the FIM Speedway Grand Prix elite after winning the GP Challenge at Russian track Togliatti.
Pawlicki beat home hero Artem Laguta in a run-off for victory after they tied on 13 points.
Both riders qualify for the 2018 SGP series, while current SGP star Patryk Dudek guaranteed his return ticket for next year by finishing third on 12. If the World Championship contender, who is currently third in this season's standings, stays inside the top eight, it will hand British champion Craig Cook a dream place in SGP 2018 after he finished fourth on 11 points.
Pawlicki suffered the agony of falling half a wheel short of qualification when he was pipped on the line by GB star Chris Harris at the 2015 GP Challenge in Rybnik.
So he will be elated to make his full-time SGP debut next year and will hope to join younger brother Piotr in the series - he finished sixth in Togliatti on nine and is currently 12th in the World Championship.
Laguta, 26, is back in the SGP fold for the first time since 2011, when the Russian international qualified as a surprise winner of the 2010 GP Challenge in Vojens, Denmark aged just 19.
Dudek won last season's GP Challenge in Vetlanda, Sweden and fell only a point short of this year's top two. He won heat 20 to break Cook's heart after the Cumbrian won race 19 to pile the pressure on the Pole.
The British champion will now be hoping Dudek continues his impressive form in his SGP debut season and books his place for 2018 via the top eight. That would see former Cardiff wild card Cook race in the World Championship for the first time as a permanent rider.
Former SGP star Michael Jepsen Jensen just missed out on nine points, along with Piotr Pawlicki.
This year's SGP first reserve Peter Kildemand scored eight, while Matej Zagar fell short on six along with Vaclav Milik, Kai Huckenbeck, Leon Madsen and Mateusz Szczepaniak.
GP CHALLENGE SCORES: 1 Przemyslaw Pawlicki 13+3 2 Artem Laguta 13+0 3 Patryk Dudek 12
