The Ipswich Witches travel to Tyneside in the first leg of the Promotion/Relegation Playoff against the Newcastle Diamonds. It will be a journery into the unknown for many of our riders as they will have no experience of the Newcastle track and this will give the home team a psychological advantage. Their team manager, George English, has said ""If they think we’re going to lie down and let them walk all over us then they’d better have a long hard think. We’re in a very comfortable winning groove and we’re not prepared to let that stop." "We’re after the win and the Witches will treat us ightly at their peril!”
Witches Director of Speedway Chris Louis is fully aware that Newcastle are in deadly serious mood about the meeting ;D“This is one of the biggest meetings in our club's history as we battle to maintain our Elite League status and we have been warned that Newcastle won’t be taking this lightly so we need all of our riders to perform to their full ability and all the support we can get from our fans!”
Newcastle have a few injury concerns ahead of the two playoff meetings. Jason King, brother of Witches skipper Danny, has been sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury and must be very frustrated at not being able to take part with family rivalry also at stake. Mark Lemon dislocated his shoulder in the playoff final against Edinburgh just over a week to go and has not ridden since. However their potent Danish duo of Kenni Larsen and Rene Bach are flying high at the moment after coming first and fourth in the PLRC recently and regularly rattling off double figure scores in team fixtures. The other good news for their fans is that Dakota North makes his return from a recent foot injury for the meeting tomorrow.
The Witches will be at full strength although as their two double uppers have commitments elsewhere number eight, Ritchie Hawkins, comes in at reserve alongside Dawid Stachyra. Kozza Smith will be available for the return leg on Thursday.
