The PGE Ekstraliga has signed a new four-year deal with FIM Speedway Grand Prix broadcaster Canal+ Polska to televise the world’s biggest speedway league until 2025. (eyewatering figures )

The agreement, which begins next year, is reported to be worth 242 million PLN (nearly £47 million) over four years. The current three-year contract with Canal+ is said to be worth 60 million PLN (nearly £12 million), meaning deal has tripled in value to the eight clubs.

PGE Ekstraliga matches are also set to be televised live on Eleven Sports, with Canal+ in talks with the broadcaster to sub-licence half of the meetings.

The new deal will see 70 PGE Ekstraliga fixtures broadcasted live, with a new quarter final round set to be added to the end-of-season play-offs.

The package also includes rights to televise racing highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and the Ekstraliga Gala, as well as post clips of the action on social media.

From this season onwards, telemetry – previously only used in the SGP series – will also be introduced to PGE Ekstraliga tracks to record race times and split close finishes on the line.

PGE Ekstraliga president Wojciech Stepniewski told SpeedwayEkstraliga.pl: “We are continuing our cooperation, which we started in 2013, because we believe that this is the best solution for PGE Ekstraliga, a guarantee of professionalism and the highest TV quality as well as continuous development.

“From the 2022 season for four consecutive years, PGE Ekstraliga matches will be broadcast on Canal+, so we do not go astray from our proven partners, and above all, thanks to mutual cooperation, we guarantee speedway fans broadcasts from all PGE Ekstraliga matches and many additional programs about the PGE Ekstraliga. We will also strongly focus on the availability of speedway on the internet.”

Edyta Sadowska, president of the board and CEO of Canal+ Polska, said: “Canal+ has been associated with the PGE Ekstraliga for many years, cooperating, supporting and investing in the development of this extremely exciting and popular discipline in our country on many levels.

“The new TV contract, which runs until 2025, confirms our long-term commitment and also ensures the financial stability that is so important in these complicated and uncertain times.

“I am convinced that our further cooperation with the PGE Ekstraliga will bring many benefits not only for the clubs and riders, but also for the entire speedway community and crowds of loyal fans.

They clearly have forward thinking people with intelligence which is why Poland does well, we have Godfrey, Bates, CVS, Terry Russell and Matt Ford, their is no comparison, British speedway has had a lot of rich and successful business men who have tried to bring the sport up in this country.

The BSI boss (his name escapes me) Sandhu, Frost and the Facennas at Glasgow have all tried and failed miserably because the old guard won’t or cannot see the wood from the trees and refuse to allow change for the better of the sport and it’s supporters.

Some of us did think the Covid would perhaps give the sport the much needed desire for change but all we have is a watered 1 rising star per team and even then it’s been bent with Bates at Sheffield and Bacon at Wolverhampton, this shows how much desire the BSPL want to change things.


They cannot see or vote for anything that doesn’t suit their own ends and if Palin does well this year (and he could) how many think he will still be at Panthers next year.

Coronavirus 26/3/21 - BBC

Poland has reported 35,143 new cases, the third record-breaking day in a row and the highest daily rise since the pandemic began, the health ministry has said.

The number of infections was up 35% from the number reported one week ago, as Poland’s third coronavirus wave continues to gain momentum. There were 443 virus-related deaths, the health ministry said.

Poland’s third wave is not expected to peak until the beginning of April. Health ministry officials attribute the spike in infections to the highly contagious UK variant, which is responsible for 80% of all new cases.

Heightened restrictions take effect on Saturday with kindergartens, large DIY/furniture stores and hairdressers closing for two weeks. Numbers will be further reduced in supermarkets and churches. Officials have urged Poles to work from home and not travel for Easter.

The measures are in addition to a partial national lockdown introduced last weekend that closed shopping centres, hotels, cultural and sporting facilities.

There are now more patients in hospital and more people on ventilators than at any time since the start of the pandemic and hospitals are experiencing shortages, not just of equipment, but trained staff.

In total, Poland has reported more than two million cases and some 51,000 virus-related deaths. In contrast, Germany - which has more than double the population of Poland - has registered just over 75,000 deaths.

Looks like he's improving still which has to be a worry for the rest.

Sayfudinov is no slouch but to catch him, make him sit up and go by relatively easily is some trick. Bart has the skill of consistently carrying corner speed and making long straights when others are still going sideways.

France and Poland have reintroduced partial lockdowns as both countries battle a sharp rise in Covid infections in recent weeks.

Some 21 million people in 16 areas of France, including the capital Paris, are affected as the country fears a third wave.

In Poland, non-essential shops, hotels, cultural and sporting facilities are now closed for three weeks.

The country has the highest new daily rates of Covid cases since November.

Had a quick look at a couple of heats yesterday. It was strange to see supporters not masked or particularly social distanced if Poland's Covid status is still as bad (compared to what's expected in England with its lack of cases). The only people seemingly masked up were riders/officials and pit crew.
