I think I have been three times to Oxford Speedway ( unique as it had dog track on inside of Speedway track) The first was a Wembley Speedway supporters club coach trip . Second my brother and I made the trip by motor scooter from Harrow. on this occasion we left the stadium to find the scooter missing and then found it had been moved as not parked in designated area. Third and final time went by car from Cambridge and individual meeting got caught up on way home in crowds from some do at Milton Keynes Bowl

Third and final time went by car from Cambridge and individual meeting got caught up on way home in crowds from some do at Milton Keynes Bowl Dog track was outside Rodders so I'm a bit confused by that one. Most memorable for Niels Kristian Iversen flying over the fence an on to it, right in front of me, after Lukas Dryml flicked a rear wheel at him on turn 4 and gave him nowhere to go. Mick Poole's 1988 Grand Slam win another Oxford highlight, as was Jason Crump's paid max in our 1999 win (pretty sure that we won and he got a paid max, or scratch that ) Poland covering the British League, those were the days

For the sake of Speedway I hope that this will be a success. I have been infrequently to Oxford Speedway , and found it not a particularly pleasant place

For the sake of Speedway I hope that this will be a success. I have been infrequently to Oxford Speedway , and found it not a particularly pleasant place I agree. Any new tracks, especially something with the history of Oxford, is to be welcomed. Hopefully Coventry similarly resurface at some point. Always enjoyed my visits to Cowley, apart from once arriving at the same time as the staff from the motor plant in its pomp were exiting for home in the afternoon. Mick Poole's Grand Slam win and a Jason Crump performance in '99 being the highlights. Not so nice was Lukas Dryml putting PUK over the fence on to the dog track and the infamous forum during the Swales/Horton period that raised the blood pressure of some I seem to recall? It's not the nicest of areas but inside the stadium it's fine.

We lived at the time in the Harrow region and went on a 125cc Lambretta inherited from our father( poor sod died age 53 from Lung Cancer and did not smoke or drink) . After the meeting the Scooter had gone, and stuck miles from nowhere with no money were up the shoot without a paddle. Then after car park cleared discovered someone had moved it presumably because where we had left it was not approved of.

JASON Crump is to take his first team management role in the sport with Championship newcomers Oxford.
The treble World Champion made a racing comeback last year with Ipswich and Plymouth, but will now turn his attentions to his new off-track position with the Cheetahs – with whom he spent a season in the old Elite League back in 1998.
Crump admits initial discussions with promoter Jamie Courtney were focused on him riding for the Cowley side, but talks quickly turned to the vacant manager’s role.
He said: “I’m so pleased to be part of the regeneration of Oxford Stadium and am excited to begin my journey as a team manager with the Cheetahs.
“We want to bring the good times back. It will take some adjustment to concentrate on the programme and what’s happening in the meeting, but I’m excited for the challenge.
“Riding is not my future. We discussed this, which led to a conversation about being team manager.
“Quickly gaining the respect of our riders is going to be a priority for me. Everything I’ve been able to muster through life has been via speedway, so I’m hoping my knowledge and experience will be of value to the whole team, particularly the younger guys starting their careers.”
