Sad but not unexpected news re Greavsie. Was fortunate to see him in probably his first season playing for Chelsea. Also at end of his career playing for Barnet.

Sad but not unexpected news re Greavsie. Was fortunate to see him in probably his first season playing for Chelsea. Also at end of his career playing for Barnet. Only of an age to remember him from Saint and Greavsie and not in a playing sense (probably wasn't following football when Barnet played Posh as mentioned above) but I know that his record stands up with the very best and, as was said on the Talkradio/Talksport slot today, his goals got England to the 1966 World Cup only for him to then miss out on the glory to Geoff Hurst. I didn't know the story of how and why but this is a great piece: Geoff Hurst: the stand-in whose hat-trick won England the 1966 World CupAnother issue was that unlike these days when you'll get a medal if you drove in to the car park at some point, only the 11 on the pitch (no subs in those days, another interesting point) got a medal. Greaves' place in our history will never be forgotten and Jimmy Greaves finally collected a World Cup winners medal in 2009 from then Prime Minister Gordon Brown following a lengthy fan campaign. 43 years, outrageous! - I was thinking is that a syrup? I've seen worse real hairstyles - Newport County European quarter finalists, I never knew that
