World champion Tomasz Gollob will make a rare appearance on British soil when he rides in Grand Prix legend Mark Loram’s farewell meeting at Poole on March 30. The 2000 SGP champion has also booked three-time world No.1 Jason Crump, British champion Chris Harris, Swedish international Freddie Lindgren and Team GB star Scott Nicholls. The Poole Pirates riders, including Chris Holder, Davey Watt and Darcy Ward, have also been invited to race. But Gollob’s appearance is certain to set tongues wagging at Wimborne Road, where he last rode in the 2004 Speedway World Cup Race-Off and Final. A delighted Loram told the Bournemouth Daily Echo: “I’m absolutely ecstatic Tomasz has agreed to come over. “Along with Leigh Adams, Tomasz was one of the best riders never to have won the world title. The fact he finally did it last year at the age of 39 is fantastic. “It’s a great honour to know he will take part in my big night alongside Jason, Scott, Chris and Freddie. I’ll be inviting all the Poole boys to ride as well and I’m sure they will.” Loram is still ironing out the finer details of his event, but confirms he will be taking to the track himself. He added: “I don’t know what the format of the meeting will be yet. I’m working on it and will step up the organisation next week. I will also be riding myself although I’m not sure in what capacity.” sgp

On a night when Mark Loram finally 'hung up his leathers' bringing to a close a career that spanned 20 years decades and saw him become the last British rider to claim a World Championship, back in 2000, Freddie Lindgren took the honours at Wimborne Road leaving Poole fans plenty to be concerned about as he returns in 7 days time for his British club Wolverhampton in the Elite Shield.. Loram did not compete in the meeting but gave a six lap demonstration in front of an appreciative large crowd and admitted afterwards "I just didn't want to stop when I was out there. A couple of seasons ago after my injury I got back on the bike and really struggled because my leg wasn't right. But it just felt so much more comfortable out there tonight, and last week when I was practicing. Unfortunately I am the wrong side of 40 now and I just don't feel as though the body could handle the rigours of regular racing, but I really had the buzz about me tonight." Loram, who had witnessed his lodger, Alex Davies suffer an awkward heat 19 fall which forced a lengthy hold up to the meeting whilst he was transferred to Poole hospital complaining of chest pains, watched on as Lindgren won the Grand Final, gaining sweet revenge on Poole skipper Davey Watt who had claimed the scalp of the Swede when the two met in the heats both boasting an unbeaten performance at the time. But Lindgren, who also recorded the fastest time of the night when he won heat 5 in 59.46 seconds, stormed from the tapes in the final to win by a comfortable margin, leading an Australian trio of Watt, Jason Crump and Chris Holder home. Result: 1st F.Lindgren (Sweden) 13+3; 2nd D.Watt (Australia) 14+2; 3rd J.Crump 11+1; 4th C.Holder 12+0 Others: 5th R.Sullivan (Australia) 10; 6th S.Nicholls (GB) 9; 7th C.Woodward (Australia) 9; 8th H.Andersen (Denmark) 9; 9th K.Larsen (Denmark) 9; 10th G.Hancock (USA) 5; 11th E.Kennett (GB) 5; 12th R.Gafurov (Russia) 4; 13th A.Shields (Australia) 4; 14th S.Parker (Australia) 4; 15th J.Screen (GB) 2; 16th K.Newman 0; Reserve A.Davies (Australia) 1.
