Today I took a pair of trousers to be professionally pressed . Expecting to collect a few days hence. The lady in the shop said I will do them for you now if you want it will only take a few minutes.
Took my wallet out to pay and she said that's all right have this one on me.

I was aware that my tyres needed changing and as an MOT due early January I sourced and booked on line the best deal from Formula 1 Auto Centre. Whilst their staff appear to be what my Mother would have described as Bowseys I have found them to be helpful ans accommodating. I therefore arrived at the selected premises Saturday morning, they seemed totally bemused , immediately said my rims would need cleaning and re sealing. This had not mentioned before so I declined. Whilst waiting they informed me that their tyre macinne has broken and there would be a delay as they sent for a part. eventually gave me my keys and said front brake pads needed replacing.
In view of this I took car today to another of their Branches who inspected the brakes and told me I needed all four pads and discs replaced. Seemingly on my car the rear discs incorporates the wheel bearings so cost me £530 . Having already paid £260 for the tyres. On way home transpired that they had somehow managed to turn off automatic hand brake system. Now got to go back to have it sorted.
Two months ago my car was serviced and only the tyres were mentioned.

Two months ago my car was serviced and only the tyres were mentioned. Funnily enough I went to Formula 1 many years ago (think it was for a service), left it with them and biked to work. No sooner had I got my bike clips off and the phone went listing all of the faults. Mostly not critical but risky to leave. I think that my expected and final costs were similar. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone else. I'm getting ripped off for service and MOT at main dealers this week but I'd rather take the hit up front knowing that's it unless there really is something that needs doing now! I tell you where you do notice a difference: Until 2 years ago I was on Motabilty and main dealers would fall over themselves to get your business. Nothing is too much trouble. They'll pick you up, drop you off & deal with your issues at the drop of a hat. You certainly realise how crap and basic the customer service is when you become a mere mortal who pays their own way.

I am quite confident that work needed doing as I saw the worn parts in situ. Problem is you don't know who to trust these days

I am quite confident that work needed doing as I saw the worn parts in situ. Problem is you don't know who to trust these days True Rodders. I've never been one for waiting, looking around, getting quotes & checking the market but I do it much more regularly now. I don't know whether that's a age thing and suddenly watching the pennies more or a lifetime of feeling ripped off? I do trust what people say much less these days. I've been watching Minder and Arthur Daley a lot recently on catch up so that might have influenced my current thinking & mistrust

Oh no! Not the dreaded Formula 1, you sure they were your parts they showed you - they are renowned for stitching people up. So much so I’m surprised they’re still trading. Used them once years ago, would have been completely ripped off if I hadn’t gone elsewhere for a second opinion.
There is a reason Apex Tyres and Exhausts are always packed from Monday to Saturday.

Had a couple of things causing me to bang my head against the wall:
First trying to change my Sky package. I only have the basic and added F1 for the end of the season. The website lets you add stuff in an instant but try to remove stuff with the same ease? Well good luck with that. The website then offers loads of useless self help options. Eventually found a phone number. Was out of hours when I first tried. Got a crap automated service 2nd time that asked "is that all for you today?" and when I said NO it said "thanks for calling" and then cut me off. 3rd time got through to India or somewhere and after 33mins on the phone I somehow managed to get rid of F1 although slight downside was that in an effort to just end the bleedin' call he talked me into their basic package + HD (not sure if I need that) for £33 which is less that before so didn't seem too bad although I dislike 18 month contracts.
Second trying to get sense from service staff today about why, when your car is on long service schedule (2 years) it throws in an inspection in-between? Still don't understand the reply but is was something along the lines it needs an oil change half way through. Just pop it in for an inspection, it's only £80. I said I'm not paying that and have just ignored it all year. Don't think that the message got through to the staff who only see the job sheet and bill in front of them. After being on Motability for 14 years when messages and maintenance was zero until MOT when you handed the car back after 3 years, having to deal with garages and staff outside that package is an expensive pain in the ****.

In my experience only way to gain attention with Sky is ‘I’m leaving’. I never try and to talk to a robot website or India reading from a script. Leaving is the only way with Sky and gaining their attention. . Regarding car service, I’ve never encountered contact for ‘in-between’ 2 year service guarantee’s. That’s supposed to be a major selling point.
