Peterborough Speedway will host one of the most popular events on the British Speedway calendar next season.
The club have confirmed they will stage the Ben Fund Bonanza, raising valuable funds for injured and disabled riders, on Sunday March 27 at 2pm.
It marks the return of the traditional event after the shortened season this year saw it miss out which was a blow to funding for the charity.
Organisers have said riders are already showing an interest in taking part with many looking for some valuable laps as well as supporting the cause.
Peterborough owner Keith Chapman said: “It’s great to be hosting this meeting, we are proud and honoured to do so.
“The Ben Fund has done so much wonderful work down the years and continues to do so, but for them not to be able to stage a meeting last season was a blow.
“It’s not just the injured riders who benefit. The work they do with the wheelchair users and even former riders who need surgery as a consequence of the wear and tear from riding speedway often goes unnoticed.
“As owner of the club I am only too pleased to bring the event to Peterborough Speedway.”

"Mar 27, 2022 - Daylight Saving Time Starts. Sunday, March 27, 2022, 2:00:00 am local daylight time instead. Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on Mar 27, 2022 than the day before. There will be more light in the evening." - when things should pick up and improve greatly as they did in 2021. See that they've cleverly picked that day for the Ben Fund meeting, not before time TBH. Panthers started on Thursday April 7 in 2011 with this thought from Rossiter: I couldn't hear all of Rossiter's interview yesterday but did get the bit about the season starting too early and that Coventry's delayed season has been a bonus in that respect. He said that the season should start after the clocks go forward and tbh the season does start ridiculously early these days. It was good to have P&P and the first meetings during fine weather and brighter evenings was his main point
It's hard to disagree!

Meanwhile the opening event of the Showground season – the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund charity meeting on March 27 - now includes former Peterborough favourite Simon Lambert and Alwalton track specialist Ryan Douglas. They join Ben Barker, Ulrich Ostergaard, Sam Masters, Josh Auty, Nicholls, Lewis Kerr, Charles Wright, Danny King, Jordan Palin and Thomas Jorgensen in the field raising money for the fund which helps out injured riders and former riders left with life changing injuries as a consequence of racing. Douglas my pick from the latest list. He does seem to like The EOES. Will be attending wife's health permitting. Not however a very inspiring line up Hope that your wife is improving Rodders. Any illness is tough and as we get older we have to live/deal with more ailments rather than get rid of the problem as we would usually do in our younger years. I sadly find British Speedway pretty uninspiring full stop these days, but having lived through the world's best rocking up locally or at a track near you on a daily basis then it's pretty difficult to get too excited about the headline "star" names mentioned these days. However, I guess that at the end of the day this is a fundraiser more than a spectacle (which is still may be) so it needs to be viewed in that way. Even given that, I'm not a fan of Sunday individuals and the like because they usually follow Rigsby's Law of Sunday speedway: "the meeting and the waffle expands so as to fill the time available for its completion." - and it is the first day of BST as well

At the moment seems to have worked but still short of breath. Consultant says that it is inevitable that she will go into Atrial Fibulation again. Next step a pace maker which will have to be done privately as we are told they do not do them on NHS for this condition

It’s very often the same riders that support The Ben Fund meeting. As you say not a very inspiring line up - especially when you compare it to The Peter Craven memorial meeting line up the week before at Belle Vue. That meeting would have raised so much more money for the much needed BF.

Even if the NHS does the treatment then the time delay can be impossible to cope with. My sister-in-law who is in her later years needed a cataract removing which you would think wouldn't be too long a wait but it was so she went private at considerable cost. You do wonder if this is part of government strategy. After all, they have to budget for pointless non clinical diversity and inclusion posts and the associated huge salary costs and pension payments/provision.

A five-man final will complete the meeting when the Ben Fund Bonanza comes to the EoES on Sunday March 27.
Ben Fund chairman Paul Ackroyd said: “It has been two years since the last bonanza meeting and we wanted to do something a little bit different and thrilling for this year. “Belle Vue’s six-rider final in the Peter Craven Memorial was something to behold and given the size and shape of Peterborough we felt there was sufficient room to somewhat replicate this.
“We are very grateful to all the riders for their co-operation in making our five-rider final happen, and we are sure it will make this year’s meeting one of the most exciting we’ve ever hosted!

Just wondering if this year there will be more imaginative and more affordable catering and bar facilities this year. For a venue like the Showground they are an embarrassment Unless we're in control of such things, which we are not unless that's changed in recent times, then expect the usual I guess, whatever that is? The general advice always seems to be go to somewhere outside the stadium beforehand. If you think that you'll be peckish or thirsty inside then take your own.

For a venue like the Showground they are an embarrassment Very much doubt it. It’s been dreadful for years now. As you say Rodders it’s an embarrassment, that’s probably out of the clubs hands. Only used the burger van once last season as took a newby and we didn’t have much time beforehand. Never again - the food has always been awful and overpriced. Don’t get me started on the ridiculous bar prices - you could take a bottle of wine, a few beers and soft drinks cheaper than one round.

Wife likes the toasted sandwiches . normally has cheese and tomato which is classed as two fillings which attracted extra £2. Had a pint from caravan last season which cost £7.

If you order a toasted sandwich what would you get? No fillings, just toast? I do feel sorry for the away or new local attendee’s that don’t know the overpriced crap on offer when they arrive. As you say, going for a beer is another shock. Eat and drink before or take it with you. The good old rucksack

Such a shame we don’t have a line up like Monday at BV. That would have been a great crowd puller for this cause. Fair play to those that do recognise its importance.

Very good afternoon and generally went smoothly. Chaos at disabled/vip gate which is fairly normal. Please realise that track grading for extended periods does little to enhance the experience. Good to see those that we have missed for some time.
