Newport Wasps captain, and number one, Leigh Lanham will enjoy home support when he faces eleven other speedway riders in the quest to win the annual New Year Classic at the Queensway Meadows Stadium on Sunday afternoon from 1pm.
In his matchday programme message to speedway fans who will travel to South Wales from all over the UK to break up the boredom of the close season Leigh states: 'I'm pleased to be racing today after missing last year's New Year Classic through an injury sustained at the end of the 2009 season. It's going to be tough but it's also going to be fun. We all go to the line wanting to win but I really enjoy this close-season action. It's great to be back on a bike again. No doubt you will enjoy the occasion too.'
The event will involve 12 qualifying heats, two semi-finals and a Grand Final. The event was won last year by Steve Boxall who will be present to defend his title.
