When they switched from gallons to litres so that you didn't realise quite as much how much you were being ripped off, I always remember that 9 litres was about 2 gallons. Therefore, at £1.65 today that equates to almost £7.50 per gallon. Unbelievable if you're old enough. God knows what it's like elsewhere in the country?

Only a youngster but my parents and Grandparents often complained of the fuel price per gallon. Sure I can remember the shock at hitting the drastic landmark of £1 per gallon. Even as a kid it didn’t take rocket science to work out why they started to advert per litre. Your conversation shows how shocking the price is now. Understand we have to move with the barrel but 70% tax is the killer.
