Good to see the BEL high on his list
Team Great Britain star Lewis Bridger admits he is mulling over a move into the Polish First Division for next season.
The 20-year-old won the British Elite League title with Coventry this term, and helped Polish club Czestochowa retain their Ekstraliga status, despite them being tipped as relegation certainties.
Bridger spent much of the campaign riding in one of the club’s second string berths, even though he was still classed as a junior.
The former Eastbourne rider was given more meetings in the Ekstraliga this season, but with a full-time mechanic joining his team in Poland next term, Bridger is determined to be riding every week.
He said: “I’ve had a good season in Poland and next year is going to be a lot better. I’m still learning about everything over there and it has all been going very well.
“We managed to keep Czestochowa up, which was good. I missed the relegation play-off at the end, but they still did it without me.
“I can’t see myself at Czestochowa next year. Maybe I’ll go to Gniezno, I’m not sure. I want to be racing every single week and I want to be a top rider in the team, not a bottom half rider struggling to get in.
“I can’t have that next year because I’m taking on a full-time mechanic next year in Poland. I need to know exactly how many meetings I am going to be doing and so on.
“I need to go to a team, where I am racing every week. I need to know what I’m earning.”
Bridger says he would also consider a foray into Sweden too, although he admits he has been stung by some bad experiences in past seasons.
He said: “If a club does contact me, I’ll definitely be interested. I’ve done a bit in Sweden, but I’ve been messed around by a lot of clubs.
“It’s not a favourite place for me. It’s just the way I’ve been treated by a few clubs. I’ve been promised the world and got nothing.”
